HAPPY FRIDAY! You have reached the end of Week 9! Here is a link to the class calendar. After you finish this week's assignments, you can start in on next week's assignments if you want; those assignments are ready to go.

Class Procedures and Reminders

Week 9 Project assignment. As you may have already seen in the Week 9 assignments page, I'll be out of town next week on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday in order to give a lecture at Creighton University. So, make sure you check the information here to see how that will work: about the Week 9 projects.

Project Stack. Yesterday I replied to all the projects that were turned in on Sunday, and today I'll get to all the projects that were turned in during the grace period. While you are waiting on comments back from me about your Project assignment, you can check the stack to make sure I received your email.

Extra Credit. Friday is a great occasion to do a Famous Last Words post! Find out more in the extra credit section of this week's assignments.

Finishing the class. A few people are getting close to finishing the class. I've added the "Finished!" menu item in Canvas, which takes you to a form you can fill out to let me know when you are done with the class. As soon as you have the points you need (410 for an A, 360 for a B, 320 for a C), you are done!

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Class Twitter. From yesterday's Twitter @OnlineMythIndia, here is an item from #FolkloreThursday; it's an article about Mermaid Folktales of the 19th Century.

Words from Mythology. The English word "syringe" is from the name of the Greek nymph Syrinx.

Storybook Archive. This project is from the Myth-Folklore class: Celtic Creature Criminal Court Clerk. Even mischief-making fairies have rules that must be obeyed, and in this Storybook you will read about those fairy tale criminals who have broken the laws of fairyland.

Free Book Online: Today's free book is The Unmannerly Tiger and Other Korean Tales by William Elliot Griffis. See the Freebookapalooza blog for links and the table of contents. There was not a Korean unit in the UnTextbook, but there are some great Korean story collections online like this one.

Story of the Day. Today's story is from Aesop's fables: The Cat Becomes a Woman. In the original Greek fable, the animal character was actually a weasel, not a cat, because the Greeks did not keep cats; instead, they kept weasels to control mice in their houses.

Video: The video for today is Epified's Krishna video series. This is a great introduction to the adventures of Krishna, and some of you in Indian Epics may be choosing this as a reading option for next week.

Growth Mindset: Today's growth mindset cat is not giving up: You must persist despite setbacks. You can find out more at the Growth Mindset blog.

Event on Campus: It's the OU Botany Fall Plant Sale from 12PM-4PM at the greenhouse across from stadium parking (details). Find out more about this and other events at the Campus Calendar online.

October 20: National Day on Writing. You can learn more about this celebration of writing at the NCTE website, and there will be lots of Twitter action at #WhyIWrite all day long. Plus, you can attend this celebration of writing on campus, including a keynote by Jeanetta Calhoun Mish, Oklahoma's poet laureate, at 5PM in the Heritage Room of the Union (details).
