Tuesday, February 20

Today is Tuesday of Week 6, and I've re-arranged the Modules area in Canvas so the new week is on top. The first reading is due today, and this week's blog comment and project feedback assignments are ready to go. Here is a link to the Week 6 assignments.

Class Procedures and Reminders

Success Tip: Google Dictionary Tool. You can do extra credit any time during the week, and a Tech Tip that can be useful when you are doing the reading is this one: Using Google "Define" ... it's a very cool search trick which you can use to investigate any unfamiliar words you find in the week's reading.

Project Stack. Yesterday I replied to all the assignments turned in before noon on Saturday, and today I should be able to finish the rest of the Saturday assignments and start in on Sunday. While you are waiting on comments back from me about your Project assignment, you can check the stack to make sure I received your email.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Blog Stream. One of the reading strategies I use a lot is Wikipedia research, learning new things to help make the reading itself more memorable. For an example of Wikipedia research in a reading notes posts, check out Blake's notes about the Bhil people of India. What a great way to learn something new so that you will really remember the character Ekalavya!

Myth Item. Here's an unusual word inspired by classical mythology: MORPHINE, from the name of the god of sleep and dreams, Morpheus.

India Video: As you start the Mahabharata in Indian Epics, I wanted to be sure to share this video: Mahabharata Meets Game of Thrones. You can see what you make of the comparisons, and if there are different comparisons that you discover as you are reading:

And here's the Game of Thrones theme, done Indian-style:

Myth Book Online: Today's free book is a collection of Egyptian myths and folktales:  Wonder Tales of the Ancient World by James Baikie. See the Freebookapalooza blog for links and the table of contents. The illustrations are by Constance N. Baikie:

Proverb of the Day: Today's proverb is from India: Slay the serpent before he bites you. Find out more at the Proverb Laboratory.

Writing: Because you can never have too much English spelling humor: a kid napping.

Reading: I hope this week's reading will take you into new worlds.

Growth Mindset: Today's growth mindset cat advises you to keep practicing: Practice to get good results. You can find out more at the Growth Mindset blog.

Video: In addition to practicing, you also need to sleep! What would happen if you didn’t sleep?
