March 17. In addition to being St. Patrick's Day, today is also the birthday of Kate Greenaway, artist and illustrator, who was born on this day in 1846; she died in 1901. You can read more about her life and career at Wikipedia. She was so famous that her style is still known as "Kate Greenaway style," and she is especially famous for her children's book illustrations, such as her lovely Mother Goose book. Here is her Little Miss Muffet:
