Sunday, February 26

Today is Sunday of Week 6. You'll need to finish the Week 6 assignments today, and you might want to do some extra credit assignments also. Some of you might also be starting Week 7 today! You can find all the assignments at the Class Calendar.

Class Procedures and Reminders

Week 6 Project. By now everybody is on their own schedule (doing Storybook or Portfolio, adding or revising, etc.), and if you have any questions about that, just let me know. After you turn in your assignment (sending me the email with the checklist), you can look at the stack to make sure I received your email.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Writing. I think you all know this feeling! Writer's block ... visualized:

Imagination. The best antidote to writer's block is to unleash your imagination. Here's a beautiful poster by Maurice Sendak for that:

Spelling. And, yes, the two words in this sound-alike pair are related: HEROIN versus HEROINE.

Featured Storybook. This project is from the Indian Epics class: Onboard the Spaceship Pushpaka. The spaceship Pushpaka is visiting a solar system where each planet has its own special connection to one of Vishnu's avatars back in the ancient days of the far away planet Earth.

Free Book Online: Today's free book is Told on the Pagoda: Tales of Burmah by Mabel Mary Agnes Cosgrove Chan-Toon. See the Freebookapalooza blog for links and the table of contents. The name of the author gives a clue to her unusual life, and you can find out more here: The Curious Case of Mrs. Chan-Toon.

Words of Wisdom: Today's saying is They wouldn’t make erasers if we didn’t make mistakes (a proverb from the USA). Find out more at the Proverb Lab. This is a perfect proverb for growth mindset!

Video: The video for today is Story of Rama through Indian Art. Find out more at the exhibit page.

Growth Mindset: Today's growth mindset cat is thinking about his potential: Feedback reveals your potential. You can find out more at the Growth Mindset blog.

Event on Campus: There will be a matinee performance of Contemporary Dance Oklahoma at 3PM in the Rupel Jones Theatre (details in the OU Daily). Find out more about this and other events at the Campus Calendar online.

February 26: Johnny Cash. Today marks the birthday of the immortal Johnny Cash (even if he did depart this earth in 2003). You can read more about his life and career in this Wikipedia article. Here's a YouTube video of a 1959 performance of Folsom Prison Blues (a song which also has its own Wikipedia article!):
