HAPPY FRIDAY! You have reached the end of Week 12! The blog commenting assignment for this week is available now, and you can find a link to all the assignments at the the class calendar.

Class Procedures and Reminders

Project Stack. I made progress on the stack yesterday, although there are still a lot of assignments in there! I'll read and reply to as many projects as I can today, so you'll get an email from today if you have a project in the stack that was turned in before Thursday. Meanwhile, you can check the stack to make sure I received your email.

Online Learning Survey. I got an email from a graduate student at OU who is doing research on online learning, and she is hoping to find students who are willing to complete a survey about their online learning experience. The survey results are anonymous, and after the survey you can enter your email address to be eligible to win one of ten $50 Amazon gift cards! It would be so cool if someone from one of these classes wins a card. Here's the link to the survey.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Writing. Choosing names for your characters is one of the most fun things about writing fiction, and there are resources online to help with that, like these charts of girls' and boys' names.

Life. Words of wisdom from Jacob Nordby: Blessed are the weird.

Words from Mythology. The word "mentor" comes from the name of a character in Homer's Odyssey: MENTOR.

Featured Storybook. This project is from the Indian Epics class: Hello, when am I? It's a mash-up in time and space as you find the story of Rama and Sita set in Verona, the story of Draupadi and her husbands set in the Wild West... just jump through the time portal and see where it takes you!

Free Book Online: Today's free book is My Book of Favorite Fairy Tales by Edric Vredenburg. See the Freebookapalooza blog for links and the table of contents. There's a free audiobook available for this one!

Words of Wisdom: Today's saying is There’s a many a slip between cup and lip (an English proverb). Find out more at the Proverb Lab. Rhyming proverbs are my favorites!

Video: The video for today is Can Dungeons and Dragons Make You A Confident and Successful Person? This is another good one from the PBS Idea channel.

Growth Mindset: Today's growth mindset cat is fearless, and has this advice for you: Confront your fears. You can find out more at the Growth Mindset blog.

Event on Campus: It's time for another Second Friday Artwalk, so come celebrate "Vernacular Songs and Spoken Words" at 5:30PM in Catlett Music Center (details). Find out more about this and other events at the Campus Calendar online.

April 14: Good Friday. In some countries this holiday is celebrated with "Hot Cross Buns" which are decorated with the sign of the cross; you can read more about this tradition at Wikipedia. One of the beliefs about Hot Cross Buns is that if you share a Hot Cross Bun with someone on Good Friday, you will enjoy friendship with them all year long if you say this charm: "Half for you and half for me / Between us two shall goodwill be."
