Monday, April 2

Today is Monday. Week 10 is now over... and Week 11 has begun. The new week's topic in the Myth-Folklore class is more Native American legends, and in Indian Epics it's another week of Krishna or Jatakas. You can find the week's assignments at the Class Calendar.

Class Procedures and Reminders

Success Tip: Do one thing better. As you start this week, think back on something that did not go so well last week, just one thing. Then, think about how you can do better with that this week, just that one thing: do one thing better this week.

Project Stack. Thanks for all the new stories and revisions! While you are waiting on comments back from me about your Project assignment, you can check the stack to make sure I received your email.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Blog Stream. There's a Tech Tip option about creating an animated gif, and Tyler did something really cool, creating two different animated gifs, one with customized pauses between the frames and another with identical pauses: Animated GIF Maker. Here's the animation that really comes to life thanks to the custom timing:

Myth Item. Look what happened when someone staged a re-creation of a famous painting of Odysseus and the Sphinx (with help from his cat and a friend's foot). See more art re-creations at Van Go Yourself.

India Video: Many of the gods and goddesses of India are known throughout Asia; here is a video about Shiva and Parvati in Cambodia.

Myth Book Online: Today's free book is Yaqui Myths and Legends by Ruth Warner Giddings. See the Freebookapalooza blog for links and the table of contents.

Proverb of the Day: Today's proverb is about justice: A fox should not be on the jury at a goose's trial. Find out more at the Proverb Laboratory.

Writing: Words of wisdom from Albus Dumbledore via J.K. Rowling.

H.E.A.R.T.: Something for while you are reading this week: Yoga for Book Lovers.

Growth Mindset: Today's growth mindset cat is all about learning: Study to learn, not just to ace the test. You can find out more at the Growth Mindset blog.

Event on Campus: And here's an event in Bizzell Library today: come talk to IT from 4-5PM in the Bizzell Community Room (details). Find out more about this and other events at the Campus Calendar online.

April 2: Andersen. Today marks the birthday of Hans Christian Andersen in the year 1805. You can read about his life and career at Wikipedia. Andersen is most famous for "The Little Mermaid," but his version is very different from the Disney film. You can read over one hundred of Andersen's stories in English at the Gilead.org website, and there are several Andersen books at the Freebookapalooza, which is the source for this illustration:
