Saturday, September 1

Today is Saturday of Week 2. Welcome to the weekend! Here is a link to the Week 2 assignments for those of you who are finishing up Week 2 now, and then Week 3 is ready to go too!

Class Procedures and Reminders

Tech Tips: Canvas. There are a lot of different Tech Tips options, and the Canvas tips can be really helpful at the start of the semester, like setting up your Canvas notifications.

Project Stack. As project assignment emails come in, I'll periodically update the stack, so you can check the stack to make sure I received your email.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Blog Stream. Yesterday I shared a campus-style story from the Myth-Folklore class, and here's another campus-style story from Megan in Indian Epics: The Mistaken Student.

Featured Storybook. Those of you in Myth-Folklore read a Laotian story about the man in the moon last week, and here is a Storybook inspired by English nursery rhymes: The Man in the Moon. (Lauren is the creator of this Storybook from last year's Myth-Folklore class, and she's in Indian Epics this semester!)

Myth Video. The Iliad is one of the reading options coming up next week, so here's a Trojan mash-up: Amy Burvall has combined The Trojan War with "Tainted Love" (more mash-ups at Amy's YouTube channel).

India Video. As you get ready for the Ramayana next week in Indian Epics, you might be interested in this Crash Course video: Rama and the Ramayana.

India Item. And if you like to color (I do!), you might enjoy using this free Ramayana coloring book. This shows King Janaka discovering baby Sita while plowing a field:

Writing. Here's some spelling humor, because you can never have too much spelling humor in English: Space Matters.

And here is a thought from one of my favorite cartoonists, Mollycules of Buddha Doodles: Choose to be optimistic.

Growth Mindset Cats. What you believe drives what you will learn: Changing your view can change your outcome.

Here's a short video on The Biology of Positivity.

Event on Campus. This weekend is your last chance to sign up for the OU Me Too Monologues (sign-up form); no previous acting experience required! You can find out more about the Me Too Monologues here: Me Too Monologues and Four Principles of Community-Based Performance.

Find out more about this and other events at the Campus Calendar online.

September 1: Saint Giles. Today is the holiday of Saint Giles; he lived as a hermit, with a deer as his only companion. You can find out more about his story at Wikipedia, and there is also a Ballad of Saint Giles and the Deer in the "Saints and Animals" unit of the UnTextbook, which is also one of the reading options next week.
