HAPPY FRIDAY! It is Friday of Week 11. Here is a link to the Week 11 assignments ... and Week 12 also if you are working ahead!

Class Procedures and Reminders

Extra credit goodness. There are several different reasons why I offer lots of extra credit each week: to help you make up missing assignments, to give you a chance to get ahead, and also to encourage you to try new things, fun and/or useful. So before things get totally busy at the end of the semester, see if you can find some time to do some of the extra credit options this week.

Project Stack. I replied to all the Sunday assignments yesterday, and I'll get through as much of the rest of the stack as I can today. You can check the stack to make sure I received your email. If I don't get to something in the stack today, you'll be at the top of the stack for Monday!

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Project Stream. Remember Jessica doing illustrations for her Storybook? She has a new story page this week with a lovely new illustration to go with it: Birth: Transformation disguised as creation.

Featured Storybook. Here's an epic adventure: Shadows of the Ishvara: A Search for the Truth. Where are the gods in the modern world? In this Storybook a young man in possession of a sword inscribed with the word "TRUTH" goes on a quest for the gods, meeting Brahma, Vishnu, Yama and, finally, Shiva.

India Video. Here's a fun one from Maati Baani for Friday: Funky Pawa.

Myth Video. And here's a First Nations Literacy video: The Ojibway Creation Story.

Myth Item. The word from mythology today is the name of the day: FRIDAY, from the name of the Germanic goddess of married love, Frigg, wife of Odin.

Writing. Check out this fun Shakespearean Insult Generator.

And some great thoughts from Kwame Anthony Appiah, professor of philosophy at NYU: I am urging that we should learn about people in other places, take an interest in their civilizations, their arguments, their errors, their achievements, not because that will bring us to agreement, but because it will help us get used to one another.

Growth Mindset Cats. This growth cat was inspired by a student's motto last semester: She believed she could, so she did.

And just for fun, here's Google Translate Sings: The Beatles. There's more fun stuff at the Translator Fails YouTube channel.

Event on Campus. There are two great events coming up this weekend, so instead of a Friday event, here are weekend events coming up that are of special interest: ISA Rangoli: Diwali Night on Saturday (details) and Day of the Dead on Sunday (details).

Find out more about this and other events at the Campus Calendar online.

November 2: All Souls Day. After the holiday of All Saints on November 1 comes the holiday of All Souls on November 2. In many Catholic countries, the two days — November 1 and November 2 — are celebrated together as the Day (or Days) of the Dead, Día de los Muertos in Spanish.
