Stories and DIY graphics. When you are writing your story today, you might think about making your own graphic to go with the story. There are some different graphic generators you can try out for Tech Tip extra credit too, like social media simulators:
The following items are for fun and exploration:
Blog Stream. Speaking of DIY graphics, here's a fun one that Carlo made: My Motto.
Free Audiobook. Today's free audiobook is Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, along with an illustration of the Mad Tea-Party by John Tenniel.
Featured Storybook. "Medved" is the Russian word for bear, and here is a Storybook about a bear policeman: The Adventures of Office Medved the Bear. It's a typical day in a sleepy little town when Officer Medved gets up and goes to work... and his first case involves a bear who is making some very strange requests of the hikers he meets in the woods.
India Video. This video is about Indian gods in southeast Asia: Shiva and Parvati Sculptures from Cambodia.
India Item. And here is a statue of Shiva at CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research.
Writing. You say POTATO, I say:
GHOUGHPHTHEIGHTTEEEAU.
And if you're feeling stressed at this time of the semester, here's some advice from Buddha Doodles: shake it off!
Growth Mindset Cats. And you have the power: make things happen!
Event on Campus. There is an event tonight honoring the late, great Martin Gardner; the reception is at 6:30PM at Sam Noble, with the lecture following at 7PM (details). It's very appropriate that the Gardner event is taking place on Tenniel's birthday (see below), as Gardner was a keen student of Lewis Carroll, who was the author of Alice in Wonderland and a mathematician.
February 28: John Tenniel. Today marks the birthday in the year 1820 of the great English illustrator, John Tenniel, who is most famous for his illustrations to Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland. You can read about Tenniel's life and career in this Wikipedia article. You can see one of his Alice illustrations above, and here is one of his Aesop's fables: the donkey in the lion's skin.
