Thursday, November 14

Today is Thursday of Week 13. Here is a link to Week 13 and also to Week 14. (Working ahead and/or doing extra credit is how you can finish up this class before Thanksgiving!)

Class Procedures and Reminders

Storytelling. Week 13 is a storytelling week, which means that for many of you today is storytelling day... and for at least some of you this may be your last story for the semester: I hope you will feel inspired and have fun!

Project Stack. If you turned in your project before 11PM on Sunday, you should have comments back from me now, and I'll keep working on the Sunday assignments today, and also start in on the assignments that came in Monday. You can always check the stack to make sure I received your email.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Blog Stream. Camille made a fairy-tale cheezburger cat this week for her reading notes: Mirror, mirror on the wall: who is the fluffiest of them all?

Twitter Stream. This is actually from the Britarian Instagram account, but someone shared it via this Bob Marley Twitter account: it's lovely to listen to!

Words. This is a word from mythology for today: it's the name of the day, Thursday, which is Thor's-Day, from the name of the Norse god Thor.

Indian Epics Today. The character today is the wind god, Vayu, father of the Pandava hero Bhima (my favorite of the Pandavas), and also the father of Hanuman. More about Vayu. This Epified video is about the meeting of the two sons of Vayu as told in the Mahabharata:

Story of the Day. And for today's "why" story, here's one about why the groundhog has such a short tail: How the Groundhog Lost His Tail.

H.E.A.R.T.. And if the semester is stressing you out right now, here is a way to sort throughout your tasks: Importance and Urgency.

And here is some advice from Grant Snider: Never stop hoping!

Writing Video. Here's a video for fans of books, especially comic books: How Comic Books Can Make Kids (and Adults) Smarter.

Event on Campus. There will be a special performance tonight at 7PM in Sharp Concert Hall: Native Voices Over the Airwaves: The Indians for Indians Hour Radio Show. This concert is free and open to the public! (details).

November 14: Karen Armstrong. Today is the birthday of the writer Karen Armstrong, born this day in 1944; she is one of my favorite authors on religious history. You can read more about her life and career in this Wikipedia article. My personal favorite of her many books is The Battle for God. Happy birthday, Karen Armstrong!
