Class Procedures and Reminders

Project Stack. If you turned in your project by 8PM on Sunday, you should have comments back from me now, and I'll keep working on the Sunday assignments today. As always, you can check the stack to make sure I received your project.

Mix and match. I hope you are enjoying the chance this week to plan out the second half of the semester, and I wanted to make sure you know that "all points are created equal" in terms of finishing up, so you can focus on the aspects of class that you find most useful and productive, as well as making your own schedule. If you have any questions about how to create a good workflow for your preferred days/times, let me know and I can help with that.

Blog Stream. Spring Break is coming soon, and Camille is already getting ready for summer; she made a summer meme: so cute!

Twitter Stream. I learned at Twitter today about this very cool project from Muhlenberg College; some students there created and published their own textbook: China's Magical Creatures (and where to find them).

A Bigger Bookshelf. Today's book is Daddy Jake, The Runaway: And Short Stories Told After Dark by Joel Chandler Harris. The folktales collected by Joel Chandler Harris in 19th-century Georgia are one of the most important sources for the African American storytelling tradition.

Myth-Folklore Video. Here are some flood stories from Crash Course: Yu the Engineer and Flood Stories from China.

Storybooks. This is a flood Storybook from Indian Epics last year: Flood Stories.

Indian Epics Today. The epic character for today is Amba, later reborn as Shikhandi, the woman whose actions are one of the most dramatic threads of the Mahabharata's plot. More about Amba, and here is a video about Shikhandi:

March 5: Howard Pyle. Today marks the birthday in the year 1853 of the American illustrator and author, Howard Pyle. You can read about Howard Pyle's life and career in this Wikipedia article, and this image shows one of Howard Pyle's paintings, The Mermaid:
