Tuesday, April 21

Today is Tuesday of Week 14. Here is a link to Week 14 and also Week 15... and Week 13 is still available too. You can see how all that works on the class calendar. It's now European reading in Myth-Folklore, with more free choice in Indian Epics. I hope you will enjoy this week's reading!

Class Procedures and Reminders

Eval.ou.edu. I think you all received an email that the course evaluations are available now. I was a little surprised that they are running exactly the same evaluations as usual... given that this semester is definitely not the usual semester! Anyway, your feedback is even more important than usual, so I hope you will take a few minutes to fill out evaluations for all your courses at eval.ou.edu.

Project Stack. If you turned in a project on Friday, you should have comments back from me, and I'm working on the Saturday items now, plus I should be able to start on the Sunday items today also. As always you can check the stack to make sure I received your project.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Blog Stream. Lots of people have been doing some biographical writing here at the end of the semester, which I think is great (that also connects up with the whole idea of Memorial Week!), and I wanted to share this one by Tricia about her fiance: The Day We Met. She had these two great graphics in her post:

Twitter Stream. I'm such a fan of tweets with pictures of people recreating works of art, and now here's someone at Twitter who used her dog to recreate a work of art: with leek-legs!

And for a Covid-related item, here is a tweet from my friend Skylar: "stay calm" is very good advice at any time, including during the pandemic.

Indian Epics Today. Today's epic character is ARJUNA, the great archer of the Mahabharata. You can learn more about Arjuna here, and also in this Epified video:

Myth-Folklore Video. And here's a Crash Course video on Serpents and Dragons.

Proverbs. This is a Latin proverb, a modern Latin proverb, about dragons (from J.K. Rowling): Never tickle a sleeping dragon. Draco dormiens numquam titillandus.

And here's another proverb; this one comes from ZanzibarWhen two elephants struggle, it is the grass that suffers.

Writing. For those of you who are into fonts, here is a John Atkinson cartoon about Elefonts.

April 21: Yom Ha-Shoah. Today is the Yom Ha-Shoah, the "Day of the Holocaust," in remembrance of the victims of the Nazis. You can read more about this memorial holiday in Wikipedia, and also learn about the term Shoah. This holiday is observed throughout the state of Israel, with special ceremonies taking place at Yad Vashem, which is the official Holocaust memorial in Israel. This image below is the Hall of Names from Yad Vashem:
