Sunday, September 27

Today is Sunday of Week 5, so that means it's time to finish up Week 5, and maybe you will have a chance to try out some extra credit for this week. Some of you will be starting on Week 6 today too: have fun with the new reading!

Class Procedures and Reminders

Project Stack. I'll look for incoming projects periodically today, so you can check the stack to make sure I received your form. The sooner you get your project turned in, the sooner you'll get comments back. I work through the stack in order, and it usually takes me the whole week. :-)

P/NP Petition. (repeat announcement) The petition at Change.org is still gaining strength: OU P/NP at Change.org. Over 2300 signatures so far! If you benefited from P/NP last Spring and/or think you might benefit from having the P/NP option this Fall, I hope you will consider signing. On Friday, the OU administration said they would not consider P/NP as an option, but maybe more signatures will persuade them to listen!

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Blog stream. In addition to the fun stuff at the blog stream, people are adding some great things to the Check-in and Connect Padlet, like this video from the immortal Rocky Horror.

Twitter stream. There are so many positive thoughts in Chitra Divakaruni's Twitter thread here (she is the author of beautiful novels about both the Mahabharata and the Ramayana!):

And there's a new cartoon from Grant Snider (see a larger view):

Storybook. Since a lot of you are working on your projects today, I wanted to share this wonderful Google Site from last semester: Venezuelan Myths.

100-Word Stories. And I experimented with a new kind of 100-word story, a story-reveal created using a Google slideshow. Just click play to launch the story: Anansi and His Grandmother.

For those of you who are doing some revising today, here's a thought from Robert Cormier:

And for those of you who are writing, just write; don't wait! Advice from Margaret Atwood:

And here's a fun writing video: Grammar Lessons with Food. Watch out for the man-eating chicken!

September 27. Banned Books Week. Today is the first day of Banned Books Week, and you can find out more at the website.

Here's a video about the ten most challenged books of 2019:
