Class Procedures and Reminders
P/NP grading. Some of you may have used the P/NP option in a class last Spring; I'm personally a big fan of the P/NP grading option. So far this Fall, the OU administration has been against the idea of P/NP as an option this semester, but I'm still hoping they might offer it again. There's an OU Daily reporter, Jana Allen, who is looking for student opinions on this topic, so if you're interested in talking with her, you can find her at Twitter, or write to her at the Daily (be sure to include her name in the email): dailynews@ou.edu.
Project Stack. If you turned in a project on Sunday before 8PM, you should have comments back from me now; I'll keep working on the Sunday items today, and in the meantime you can check the stack to make sure I received your assignment. My goal is always to get through the stack by the end of the week, but it usually does take me all week to work my way through the whole stack.
The following items are for fun and exploration:
Blog stream. I learn a lot of new things every semester as people research their Storybook projects, and from Helen's post about Vietnamese legends, I learned about the Boy on the Iron Horse, who is one of the Four Immortals; here's a statue of the boy in Ho Chi Minh City:
Storybook. Also from Vietnam: here's a Storybook someone did in Myth-Folklore a couple years ago about Vietnamese love legends, Love and Loss in Vietnam.
And I thought this tweet was hilarious; I have this feeling about stories all the time. I have a great idea and then... well...
Some of you might know Professor Gaddie at OU; he shared this adorable bulldog yoga photo at Twitter:
100-Word Stories. The story for today is about Ganesha and the lesson Kubera, the god of wealth, learned when he invited Ganesha to a feast: Kubera and Ganesha.
And in addition to bulldog-yoga, you can practice slow breathing:
And for those of you who are writing today, some advice from Debbie Ridpath Ohi: Just write!
There's also an ACK comic book version, and for more about ACK see below.
September 17: Anant Pai. Today marks the birthday of Anant Pai, the founder of Amar Chitra Katha comic books. You can find out more about his inspiring life story at Wikipedia, and I hope those of you in Indian Epics will get a chance to go to Bizzell and enjoy the ACK collection. The ACK Twitter feed is commemorating his birthday with the #UnitedByStories hashtag.
