Thursday, October 1

Today is Thursday of Week 6. Here is a link to Week 6. Some of you will be writing a Story post today (writing a story is always a good option), and some of you will be doing Story Lab. I hope you will enjoy the experience whichever choice you make! (For those of you doing Storybooks, be sure to check out the Story Lab options on the list specifically with you in mind: Storybook Research and also Blog Story Revisions.)

And it's October 1: someone at the Padlet shared this very cute gif for the new month. :-)

Class Procedures and Reminders

Announcements by email. There's useful information (I hope!) in the announcements each day, and you can subscribe to the announcements by email. It's even a Tech Tip: Announcements by email.

Project Stack. If you turned in your project assignment before 9PM on Sunday, you should have comments back from me by now, and I'll keep working on the Sunday assignments today. As always, you can check the stack to make sure your project is in the queue.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Blog stream. Instead of a blog post, this is a Google Site design tip; check out how Hunter created an image carousel (that's an option in Google Sites) to display images of all four of her leading characters: High School Heroes.

If you're looking for that in Google Sites, just go to Insert and scroll on down; you'll find image carousel as one of the options:

Twitter stream. Has everybody seen the viral video of Eshna Kutty? There's an interview with her here at Scroll.in, and the video's in the article: a social media star with her sari and hula hoop.

William Dalrymple is one of my favorite writers in India, and his book about the evil doings about the British East India Company, The Anarchy, came out this year; you can listen to an audio excerpt in this tweet:

Storybook. Some of you in Myth-Folklore have been exploring Egyptian mythology, so here's a Storybook to look at: Asking Anubis.

Plus some thoughts about Egypt and its past: Who really owns the past?

100-Word Stories. This is a tiny story set in Egypt; it's a Sufi version of the story of Joseph and his brothers: The Sound of Joseph's Cup.

And here's a thought about emojis: Emojis as Hieroglyphics.

And a video from PBS: Can You Speak Emoji?

October 1: International Day of Older Persons. You can find out more about this international holiday at the United Nations website, and there will be lots happening at the Twitter hashtag today: #UNIDOP.

Here's a video from the UN channel at YouTube:
