Thursday, April 29

Today is Thursday of Week 14. Here is a link to Week 14 and a link to Week 15 also. That's all that's left of the semester! You can see how all the dates work here in the class calendar.

Class Procedures and Reminders

Story Lab: Week 14 and 15. For both this week and also next week, you can choose to do a new Story post at your blog, or you can do a Story Lab. If you have not looked at the microfiction options, I'd recommend giving that a try! You can learn about microfiction, or write your own, or revise some microfiction you wrote earlier.

Project Stack. If you turned in something before 9PM on Sunday, you should have gotten comments back from me, and I'll keep working on the Sunday items today. As always, you can check the stack to make sure I received your project.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Blog stream. Kat was reading the Kalevala unit in the Myth-Folklore class this week, and she included this gorgeous painting in her reading notes: Väinämöinen and Aino.

Twitter stream. Something new from the ever-wonderful Grant Snider (larger view):

If you are doing research for end-of-semester projects, this item might be useful; it's an OU Library tool for online browsing and research: Library Browser Extension.

Here's a cool animated gif with the zodiac wheel of the year!

Plus some wisdom from Tiny Buddha:

And here are some highlights from back in Week 4 of the semester:

For those of you who are into gaming, check out these ancient polyhedral dice!

And I thought this tweet was hilarious; I have this feeling about my writing all the time. I have a great idea and then... well...

Plus some breathing recalibration for this stressful time of the semester: practice slow breathing.

April 29. Today is the birthday of the Indian artist Raja Ravi Varma, who was born in 1848. Below you can see his depiction of Rama building the bridge to Lanka, and you can check out the Indian Epic Images blog for more of Varma's work.

Here is a video about restoring Varma's old paintings:
