It seems to me that these images are very much like the story retellings you do in class, except this involves re-painting a painting rather than re-telling a tale. The results are really intriguing, even more so when you know the original painting which has been adapted. For example, below is a re-vision of William-Adolphe Bouguereau's The Bather, but with Wonder Woman instead. Beautiful!

Some of you may be familiar with the website Worth1000.com (as in the phrase "a picture is worth a thousand words"). They sponsor all kinds of image creation and re-mix contests, and I recently saw this collection of items from the Superheroes-in-Art contests over the years: Modern Renaissance Superhero Designs: Altered Art.
