Ning blogs and comments. One of your Tuesday assignments is to post an Introduction about yourself in your blog at the class Ning. You'll be doing more blog posts at the Ning later this week... and then, after the posting assignments for the week are done, you'll have a "Read and Respond" assignment where you'll be assigned some specific blogs of other people in class to read and comment on. Although you can do the other assignments for class early (and I strongly encourage you to work ahead as much as you can!), the "Read and Respond" assignment is something you cannot do early, since you need to wait until everybody has had a chance to finish their blog posting assignments for the week, which will not be until the end of the day on Thursday. As a result, the "Read and Respond" assignment will be available starting on Friday - I'll let you know more about that later in the week. Meanwhile, if you want to leave comments for each other, that's GREAT - but the official responding has to wait until everybody has had a chance to publish all their blog posts for the week.
Early Proofreading and Storybook assignments. As those of you who are working ahead turn in your Proofreading and Storybook assignments, I will get those back to you as soon as I can. You can check at this webpage to make sure I have received your assignment: Assignment Stack. I publish the list of assignments in the stack like that so you can check to make sure I have in fact received your assignment - if you do not see yourself listed in the stack, let me know so I can track down the missing email.
Cartoons in the Ning. Some of you who were using the Ning yesterday may have noticed some odd things happening to the layout. This is because the script I used for the random cartoons started to confuse the page layout, and the folks at technical support could not figure out just why the script and the layout stopped working (since it worked just fine for several years). The best alternative I could think of was to put my cartoon files in the Ning and then to let the Ning slideshow display them at random. So, if you are a fan of the cartoons, you can now start/stop the slideshow, control the speed, all those typical slideshow things. In any case: my apologies for any confusion the changing layout caused yesterday! I like sharing the cartoons (it's kind of like having an office door decorated with cartoons the way a regular faculty member might...), and I hope it won't cause any trouble in future. Fingers crossed!
Tuesday Events on Campus. Another beverage event in the Union: invent your own tea brew! Come to the first floor lobby from 11:30AM-12:30PM for a tea adventure (time/location/details). Find out more about this and other events at the Campus Calendar online.
January 15: Asbjørnsen. Today marks the birthday in the year 1812 of the great Norwegian folklorist Peter Christen Asbjørnsen. Together with his collaborator Jørgen Engebretsen Moe, he published a monumental collection of Norwegian folktales. You can read these Norwegian folktales online at Sur La Lune, and you can learn more about Asbjørnsen at Wikipedia. The image below shows the cover of the book Norske folkeeventyr as published in 1874.
