Friday, Feb. 15 - Sundary, Feb. 17

HAPPY WEEKEND! You have reached the end of Week 5! The Week 5 Read and Respond assignment (blog commenting) is available now, and so is the Week 5 Internet assignment (Storybook Coverpage commenting). Please make sure you get started on those assignments soon; they are due today or over the weekend.

Storybook Stack. If you turned in a Week 4 Storybook assignment on time, you should have gotten comments back from me now, with points recorded in the Gradebook. If you turned something in during the grace period on Monday or later in the week, it may still be in the stack. Because the Introduction is often the hardest part of the Storybook for people to write, this is the week where it takes me the longest to read and reply to everybody's assignments... so, if I don't manage to finish everything in the stack on Friday, I will get comments back to you on Saturday at the latest for any assignment that people have turned in before Friday at 8AM. Anything turned in after 8AM on Friday morning will go into the stack for next week.

GoogleSites Tips. (repeat announcement) For the Week 5 Storybook assignment, you will be publishing your Introduction at your Storybook website. Here are some Goole Sites tips you might want to look at as you continue to work on the layout and design of your site: design templates - font sizes and other design elements - image size and placement - site title and page titles - site navigation. Also, please review the information on adding a new page - ESPECIALLY the part in bold red about making your new page a "top level" page; if you don't do that, you'll end up with a subpage which might give you all kinds of grief in the future!

Week 5 Responding. For the Responding assignment, you should be looking for the Week 5 essay and story - which means you may need to scroll down, because some people are working ahead. So, if you do not find somebody's Week 5 blog posts at the top of their blog, just scroll on down until you find what you are looking for. For information about what to do if someone does not have the posts you are looking for, see the instructions at the assignment. There is also an extra credit responding option this week again; you will find details about that in the regular responding assignment.

Friday Events on Campus. Come to the Union 7PM-9PM for Blood, Love and Chocolate - which pairs the free showings of "Breaking Dawn" with the annual Chocolate Factory... FREE food and a FREE film (time/location/details). Find out more about this and other events at the Campus Calendar online.

February 15: Vasant Panchami. The Hindu holiday Vasant Panchami, held in honor of the goddess Saraswati, falls on February 15 this year. Saraswati is the goddess who presides over music, art and wisdom; you can read more about Saraswati in this detailed Wikipedia article. Below is an image of Saraswati, showing her with a vina (a traditional stringed musical instrument) in one hand as she strums it with another hand; in her two other hands, she holds a book (a symbol of learning and wisdom) and a string of beads to be used in meditation (symbolizing spiritual practice and dedication). Her traditional animal vehicle is the swan, so you can see swans swimming around her feet, as well as a peacock in the background. Let's hope the goddess of wisdom will help to make this a good new semester for everyone!
