Tuesday, February 26

Today is Tuesday of WEEK 7 of the class, and I've re-arranged the Quiz area in Desire2Learn so Week 7 is on top. This week's topic is India or Japan in Myth-Folklore. In Indian Epics, you are finishing up Buck's Ramayana. If you have not turned in your Week 6 Storybook assignment yet, you may still do that for partial credit.

Storybook Stack
. As usual at the beginning of the week, there are still LOTS of Storybook assignments in the stack. If you turned something in on Friday or Saturday before 2PM, you should have comments back from me already. If you turned something in later on Saturday or on Sunday or Monday, it is probably still in the stack. If you want to check and make sure your assignment is in the stack, you can see the contents of the stack here. PLEASE DO CHECK: if something did go wrong with your email, it is important for you to let me know right away.

Week 7 Internet assignment. For the Week 7 Internet assignment, which is available now, you will be reading STORIES at the Storybooks. That means you have more reading to do this time (stories and introductions), so you will have just THREE Storybooks that you comment on. You are welcome to do that assignment now; you don't have to wait if a person you are assigned happens not to have published a story yet. To find out more about how the assignment works this week, see the Internet assignment page.

Tuesday Events on Campus. Right now as I write the announcements for Tuesday, I am not sure if campus will be open or not, so I am not including any announcements for campus events. In general, snow days are good for online classes because it is often a chance to work ahead in this class when regular classes are cancelled. If the weather for some reason causes a problem for you in completing the Tuesday assignments (like if your power is out), let me know when you get back online and we'll work something out!

CONGRATULATIONS, JASON! We have an Oklahoma celebrity in class this semester - every year, “The Buckle-Down Awards” honor Oklahoma law enforcement officers who specialize in traffic safety enforcement and education... and this year, Jason, who works for the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office, was awarded the “Michael J. Garner Top Cop of the Year” award. You can read more about it in Jason's famous last words this week. Congratulations to you, Jason!

February 26: Johnny Cash. Today marks the birthday of the immortal Johnny Cash (even if he did depart this earth in 2003). You can read more about his life and career in this Wikipedia article. Here's a YouTube video of a 1959 performance of Folsom Prison Blues (a song which also has its own Wikipedia article!):
