HAPPY FRIDAY! You have reached the end of Week 6! The Read and Respond assignment (blog commenting) is available now. Friday morning is also the grace period if you did not complete the Thursday assignments.

Class Procedures and Reminders:

My Friday Schedule. I will be away from my desk for a big chunk of the day today, so I will be less quick to respond to emails, but I will reply to anything urgent by the end of the day.

Blog Responding. For the Responding assignment, you should be looking for the Week 6 essay and story - which means you may need to scroll down if someone in your group is working ahead. For information about what to do if someone does not have the posts you are looking for, see the instructions at the assignment. There is also an extra credit responding option this week; you will find details about that in the regular assignment instructions.

Storybook Stack
. I've read and replied to all the Storybooks that were turned in by noon on Thursday and, as always, you can check the the Storybook stack to make sure I have received your assignment if you turned something in after noon on Thursday. I won't be updating the stack too often during the day on Friday, but I will be sure to update it at the end of the day.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Featured Tech Tip: MemeCrunch Meme Generator. This is just one of many possible meme generators that you can use, of course... and at least in my personal opinion, we can never have too many memes!

Featured Storybook: Karma's Courthouse. This is a fascinating Storybook from last year, with Rama, Sita, Maya, and Indra standing accused in Karma's court!

FREE Kindle eBook: The Arabian Nights by Kate Wiggin and Nora Smith. Here is a link to the book at Amazon, and this blog post provides additional information about the contents of the book. This is yet another of the English retellings of Arabian Nights that you can find online for free.

Words of Wisdom: Today's proverb poster is We cannot direct the wind, but we can adjust the sails (a German proverb). Details at the Proverb Lab. This is one of those proverbs that is literally true (for sailing), and it is also true for life itself, metaphorically speaking!

Ramayana Image: Today's Ramayana image shows Hanuman in Lanka. You can see him up in the tree watching Sita, and you can also see him disguised as a cat in the foreground!

Friday Event on Campus: UPB's Comedy Fight Night is going on 7PM - 10:30PM in Meacham Auditorium (details). Find out more about this and other events at the Campus Calendar online.

September 27: Rosetta Stone. On this day in the year 1822, Jean-François Champollion announced that he had deciphered the Rosetta stone, a crucial step in the interpretation of the ancient Egyptian writing system which was based on hieroglyphs. So, if you have seen the ads for "Rosetta Stone" language-learning software, you might be interested in reading about the history of the real Rosetta Stone itself! You can find out more in this Wikipedia article, and below you can see a picture of the actual Rosetta Stone in the British Museum:

Note: You can page back through older blog posts to see any announcements you might have missed.
