Saturday, October 19

Today is Saturday of Week 9. I hope you are having a nice weekend! If you did not finish up the end-of-week assignments on Friday, you need to do that today or tomorrow, Sunday.

Class Procedures and Reminders:

D2L Upgrade Postponed. Due to the odd problems with Desire2Learn this week, the planned upgrade for this weekend is POSTPONED. So, no worries for those of you who will be doing work on Sunday: Desire2Learn should be working just fine, and if you run into any problems, let me know!

Storybooks. This is one of those weeks where I am having to do some schoolwork on Saturday morning. So, if you turned in a Storybook before Friday last week and do not have comments back from me yet, you should have those on Saturday morning. Assignments turned in on Friday or over the weekend will go into the stack; you can check the contents of the stack here.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Featured Tech Tip: Google Search-by-Image. Use the amazing power of Google to search, not with words, but with an image. This is a great tip for those of you wanting to find out more information about the images you are using in your Storybook, for example.

Featured Storybook: An Owl's Tale. For some charming stories about owls as told by an owl, take a look at Evin's wonderful Storybook for this semester!

FREE Kindle eBook: Curious Myths of the Middle Ages by Sabine Baring-Gould. Here is a link to the book at Amazon, and this blog post provides additional information about the contents of the book which is a personal favorite of mine. It is full of amazing legends and stories!

Words of Wisdom: Today's proverb poster is The dogs bark, but the caravan goes on (an Indian proverb). Details at the Proverb Lab. In other words, ignore the barking, and just keep on going!

Mahabharata Image: Today's Mahabharata image is Draupadi and the Pandavas. King Yudhishthira is on the throne, the twins are in the background, and you can identify Bhima by his mace on the left, with Arjuna to the right.

Saturday Event on Campus: There will be a performance of L'Elisir d'Amore (The Elixir of Love), a comic opera written by Gaetano Donizetti, at 8PM in the Reynolds Performing Arts Center (details in the OU Daily). Find out more about this and other events at the Campus Calendar online. In addition, you can visit KGOU's OneSix8 blog for detailed information about all kinds of events this weekend in Norman and nearby. The photo below shows School of Music students Jack Swanson and Elizabeth Hays performing L'Elisir d'Amore:
