Saturday, November 9

Today is Saturday of Week 12. I hope you are having a nice weekend! If you did not finish up the end-of-week assignments on Friday, you need to do that today or tomorrow, Sunday.

Class Procedures and Reminders:

Storybook Stack. On Friday, I managed to get through all the Storybooks turned in before Friday. Meanwhile, if you turned in something on Friday, it is at the top of the stack for Monday, and I will update the stack once or twice again over the weekend. You can check the contents of the stack here.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Featured Resource: PlainLanguage.gov. This U.S. government website actually has some great advice about plain language, and it even includes a humor section!

Featured Storybook: Desperate Goddesses: Life on Mythological Lane. This Storybook from last year is done in the style of "Desperate Housewives" ... but with goddesses instead.

FREE Kindle eBook: Kalevala, The Land of the Heroes translated by William Forsell Kirby. Here is a link to the book at Amazon, and this blog post provides additional information about the contents of the book. The Kalevala is the national epic of Finland.

Words of Wisdom: Today's proverb poster is Teachers open the door; you enter by yourself (a Chinese proverb). Details at the Proverb Lab. As you can imagine, I agree very much with the sentiment of this proverb!

Mahabharata Image: Today's Mahabharata image is Shiva and Vishnu, with Shiva on the left and Vishnu (blue) on the right.

Saturday Event on Campus: The India Student Association's Diwali Night is tonight, with the show starting at 7 PM in the Reynolds Performing Arts Center and dinner at 9PM in the Jim Thorpe Multicultural Center at 9 PM. (details). Find out more about this and other events at the Campus Calendar online. Here is a video preview:
