HAPPY FRIDAY: You have reached the end of Week 9! Friday morning, until noon, is the grace period for Myth-Folklore if you did not finish Thursday's work, and the blog commenting assignment for this week is available in both classes now.

Class Procedures and Reminders

Project StackI've read and replied to all the projects turned in on Sunday, but I still have a lot of projects in the stack that were turned in during the week. By the end of the day on Friday I hope to reply to everything turned in before Friday. You can check to make sure I have received your assignment here: project stack.

Blog Responding. The blog responding groups are ready to go! I hope you will enjoy reading the stories this week. Even if you did not do a storytelling post yourself, you are still in a blog group, and I hope you will want to read and comment.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Bibliotherapy. I thought you might enjoy this article in the New Yorker about bibliotherapy: Bibliotherapy is a very broad term for the ancient practice of encouraging reading for therapeutic effect.

Words to Watch: Today's words to watch out for are DAIRY and DIARY. For details, see this blog post. These words do not sound the same, but they are easy to mix up when you are typing — and the spellchecker will not be able to help you.

Featured Storybook: Rocky Mountain Tales. You are invited to join a camping expedition in the Rocky Mountains. Snowed in, you spend your time in the cabin listening to stories of ghosts, buried treasures, and tales of how the mountains themselves came into being.

Free Book Online: Myths and Legends of the Great Plains by Katharine Berry Judson. This blog post provides additional information about the stories in this book which come from the Omaha people and a dozen or so other Plains tribes.

India Featured Book: Ganesha Goes to Lunch by Kamla K. Kapur. This blog post provides additional information about this reading option for Indian Epics. It is a beautiful book, with stories about Vishnu, Brahma, and Shiva, along with stories from the Ramayana and the Mahabharata. There is a print copy in the Library, and there is also a Kindle ebook you can check out too.

Words of Wisdom: Today's proverb poster is If you find yourself in a hole, the first thing to do is to stop digging (a proverb from the USA). Details at the Proverb Lab. This is obviously true for literal holes, and it is true for life's metaphorical holes too.

Today's Video: Gayatri Mantra: Battlestar Galactica. Yesterday, I shared the ancient Gayatri mantra here in the announcements; did you know you can hear that same mantra in the theme music from Battlestar Galactica? Really!

Growth Mindset: Today's growth mindset cat has so much potential: Our true potential is unknown ... and unknowable. Details at the blog.

Event on Campus: Today is the official opening of the LGBTQ Community Lounge from 2PM to 4PM in Union, Room 156, near Crossroads (details). Find out more about this and other events at the Campus Calendar online.

Note: You can page back through the older blog posts to see any announcements you might have missed, and you can check out the Twitter stream for information and fun stuff during the day.
