Sunday, October 11

Today is Sunday of Week 7. Make sure you finish the end-of-week assignments today, and you might want to do some extra credit assignments also. For those of you who are traveling back to Norman today: drive safely!

Class Procedures and Reminders

Project Stack. I don't update the Project stack as often on the weekends, but I'll update it at least once or twice. If you want comments back on your assignment sooner rather than later, turn in your work earlier on Sunday rather than waiting until later. If you wait until Sunday evening, you will be farther down in the stack and will have to wait longer for my comments back to you.

Week 8 Assignments. Week 8 is a review week! So, there is no new reading in Week 8, and instead there are just some review activities. If you have been wanting to try a new schedule so that you are working a few days ahead of schedule, now is the PERFECT time to do that. You can start the Week 8 assignments today, and they will go really quickly because there is no reading — just some review and planning blog posts to write up.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Reading is Dangerous. Grant Snider is one of my favorite cartoonists; you can find out more at his blog.

Indian Words in English: Today's word from India in English is CALICO from the city of Qaliqut (modern Kozhikode) where calico fabrics were manufactured, and from the colorful fabrics, we get the name for the colorful cats. For details, see this blog post.

Featured Storybook: Chasing a Rabbit Trail. An adventurous young American rabbit decides to visit rabbit relatives around the world, listening to their stories and learning from each one of them along the way.

Words of Wisdom: Today's proverb poster is The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago; the second-best time is now (a Chinese proverb). Details at the Proverb Lab. This is true for all kinds of important endeavors, of course — not just planting trees.

Find out more about this and other opportunities at the Campus Calendar online.
