Class Procedures and Reminders
Project stack update. I'm still working on the Project assignments turned in on Sunday; if you turned in your Project assignment by Sunday at 10PM you should have comments back from me. I hope to finish the rest of the assignments turned in on Sunday today, and then I'll start working on the assignments that were turned in during the Monday grace period and later this week. You can check the stack to make sure I have received your assignment!
Blog commenting. After the grace period ends at noon today, I'll start putting together the new random blog groups for the blog commenting. I'll get that done this afternoon, and then I will update these announcements when the groups are ready to go — the blog groups should be ready by 5PM at the latest.
The following items are for fun and exploration:
Procrastination Flowchart. Last week I shared a humorous procrastination flowchart; this one is a more serious chart to help you figure out why you procrastinate in order to find some possible solutions. Find out more at this Lifehacker blog post. (I'm an avoider type of procrastinator myself!)
Indian Words in English: Today's word from India in English is BUDDHA; the word means "awakened" in Sanskrit. For details, see this blog post.
Featured Storybook: Hotel California. In this eerie Storybook, Daphne and Felix Cross check into the Hotel California and — just as you would expect — they can check out any time they like, but they can never leave . . .
Free Book Online: Algonquin Legends of New England by Charles Godfrey Leland. This blog post provides additional information about the stories in this book, which feature the adventures of the Algonquin hero, Glooskap.
India Featured Book: Pashu: Animal Tales from Hindu Mythology by Devdutt Pattanaik. This blog post provides additional information about this reading option for Indian Epics; I had shared a video by Pattanaik based on this marvelous book in yesterday's announcements. The Kindle book is just $5, and it gives you two weeks' worth of reading, with lots of illustrations by the author too!
Words of Wisdom: Today's proverb poster is Look before you leap (an English proverb). Details at the Proverb Lab. This applies to all leaps: real and metaphorical!
Today's Video: Taino Music and Storytelling by Irka Mateo. Irka Mateo is a Taino (Arawak) storyteller and musician, and this video records one of her performances at the Smithsonian.
Growth Mindset: Today's growth mindset cat seems to be a college senior! Think about where you'd like to go. Details at the blog.
Event on Campus: There will be a free yoga and wellness event at the Huff tonight, 7:30PM - 9:00PM (details). Find out more about this and other events at the Campus Calendar online.
Note: You can page back through the older blog posts to see any announcements you might have missed, and you can check out the Twitter stream for information and fun stuff during the day.
