Saturday, February 20

Today is Saturday of Week 5. I hope you are having a nice weekend!

Class Procedures and Reminders

Assignment Stack. As always, you can check the stack to make sure I received your Project assignment; I'll be updating the stack periodically over the weekend. I replied to all the project assignments turned in before noon on Thursday, and on Monday I'll start responding to the assignments in the order they were turned in. So, to get comments back sooner rather than later, turn in your assignment today — if you wait until Sunday to do that, you'll have a longer wait for comments back.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

United States of Horror Movies. Oklahoma is represented by Terror at Tenkiller. To our north is Near Dark and, naturally, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre to our south.

Words to Watch: Today's words to watch out for are BARE and BEAR. For details, see this blog post.

Featured Storybook: Kindergarten Shenanigans. Aesop's fables set in the lives of kindergarteners, with a good lesson learned every time.

Free Book Online: Deccan Nursery Tales by C. A. Kincaid. This blog post provides additional information about the contents of the book. The "Decca" is the great Deccan Plateau region of southern India.

India Featured Book: Draupadi: The Dusky Firebrand. This blog post provides additional information about this reading option for Indian Epics, one of the comic books that is on Reserve for you in Bizzell.

Words of Wisdom: Today's proverb poster is All the buds upon a bush do not blossom (a Kashmiri proverb). Details at the Proverb Lab. And you know? That's okay!

Today's Video: Conjunction Junction. This is my favorite of the Grammar Rock videos; you can see all of them in this collection.

Growth Mindset: Today's growth mindset cat is curious! Curiosity: the quest for new ideas and information. Details at the blog. It's kind of like they are looking up at the video and watching! :-)

Event on Campus: There are showings of The Trojan Women again this weekend; today the show is at 8PM in the Weitzenhoffer Theatre (details). Find out more about this and other events at the Campus Calendar online.

February 20: World Day of Social Justice. The theme of the 2016 holiday is "A Just Transition - environmentally sustainable economies and societies." You can find out more at the U.N. website.

Note: You can page back through the older blog posts to see any announcements you might have missed, and you can check out the Twitter stream for information and fun stuff during the day.
