Tuesday, February 16

Today is Tuesday of WEEK 5, and I've re-arranged the Declarations area in D2L so the new week is on top. If you have not done the first reading for this week yet, you need to do that today. Here is a link to this week's assignments.

Class Procedures and Reminders

Project Stack. Thanks again to everybody for all the project links! I managed to get the Directories set up for both classes (please check to make sure I listed you correctly: Myth-Folklore and Indian Epics), and I also got through the assignments turned in by Saturday at 2PM. Today I'll finish the assignments that were turned in on Saturday and start working on the Sunday assignments. As always, you can check the stack to make sure I received your assignment.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Plot Twist. Yes, you can use your writing skills to change your life!

Indian Words in English: Today's word from India in English is JUNGLE, from Hindi jangal. For details, see this blog post.

Featured Storybook: India Travel Journal. This Storybook contains tales of India's natural wonders — from the river Ganges to the Vindhya Hills — and their mythological origins.

Free Book Online: Indian Fairy Tales by Joseph Jacobs. This blog post provides additional information about the contents of the book, which is one of the India reading units in Myth-Folklore this week!

India Featured Book: Bheema and Hanuman: The Sons of Vayu, The Wind God. This blog post provides additional information about this reading option for Indian Epics. It's about one of the heroes of the Mahabharata (Bhima) and his half-brother: the monkey-god Hanuman.

Words of Wisdom: Today's proverb poster is When the house is built, the carpenter is forgotten (a proverb from India). Details at the Proverb Lab. I was excited to find a photograph of carpenters in India to use to make this poster!

Today's Video: How to Use a Semicolon. This is a video from TED-Education.

Growth Mindset: Today's growth mindset cat can see a lot from up there: The higher you climb, the more you can see. Details at the blog.

Event on Campus: There will be a Black History Month Luncheon with Dr. George Henderson at the Henderson-Tolson Cultural Center at noon (details). Find out more about this and other events at the Campus Calendar online.

February 16: Christopher Eccleston. As some of you know already, I am a Doctor Who fan (fanatic), and today, February 16, is the birthday of Christopher Eccleston, who is my favorite of the Doctors; he was the Ninth Doctor in the 2005 season of the series. I've been watching Doctor Who practically my whole life — the series began all the way back in 1963. You can find out more in this Doctor Who article at Wikipedia; the image below shows the Doctor and his time-traveling spaceship named the TARDIS:
