Tuesday, March 29

Today is Tuesday of WEEK 10, and I've re-arranged the Declarations area in D2L so the new week is on top. If you have not done the first reading for this week yet, you need to do that today! Here is a link to this week's assignments.

Class Procedures and Reminders

Project Stack. Today turned out busier than I expected, so I only got through the Thursday assignments; if you turned something in on Friday or over the weekend, it is probably still in the stack, and I hope to get through the Friday and Saturday assignments today. You can check the stack to make sure I received your assignment. If the project assignment gives you the points you need to be done with the class, let me know so that I can move it up to the top of the stack!

Week Project Feedback: Storybooks. The Project Feedback assignment is different this week. Instead of random groups, it's all about Storybooks and choosing the Storybooks in your class that you want to look at. I hope you will have fun with that!

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Seven Steps to the Perfect Story. Now that you've been writing stories for a couple of months, you will probably appreciate the ideas in this infographic. For details see the blog post.

Mythology Words in English: Today's mythology word in English is CALLIOPE, which is the name of the one of the Greek Muses. For details, see this blog post.

Featured Storybook: Live On, University Legends. After you read this Storybook, you will never think about Walker Tower or the Cate Center in the same way again.

Free Book Online: Algonquin Legends of New England by Charles Godfrey Leland. This blog post provides additional information about the stories in this book, which focus on the hero legends about Glooskap.

India Featured Book: The Song Celestial; Or, Bhagavad-Gita, translated by Edwin Arnold. This blog post provides additional information about this reading option for Indian Epics. Arnold's English version is the first version of the Gita that Gandhi read!

Words of Wisdom: Today's proverb poster is Arthur himself had but his time (an English proverb). Details at the Proverb Lab. There are some legends, though, that tell us Arthur is only sleeping and will return someday!

Today's Video: The Machine is Us/ing Us. This is an old video by Michael Wesch, but it is still very much worth watching... as over one million people have done!

Growth Mindset: Today's growth mindset cats are curious: Everyone is born with an intense desire to learn. Details at the blog.

Event on Campus: The College of Architecture's Isfahan Symposium will take today and tomorrow (details). Find out more about this and other events at the Campus Calendar online.

March 29: Lucy Lawless. Today is the birthday of Lucy Lawless, the New Zealand actress most famous for her role as Xena the Warrior Princess, although my favorite of her roles is the Number Three Cylon in Battlestar Galactica. Happy Birthday, Lucy!

Note: You can page back through the older blog posts to see any announcements you might have missed, and you can check out the Twitter stream for information and fun stuff during the day.
