Monday, April 25

Today is Monday. Week 13 is now over... and Week 14 has begun. Monday morning, until noon, is the grace period if you did not finish the final Week 13 assignments, which you can find here: Week 13. And Week 14 will be the last week of reading: I hope you will enjoy it!

** The PBWorks website with the class calendar and assignment instructions was undergoing maintenance late on Monday; I hope it will be back online soon. I'll update this when I have more info!

Class Procedures and Reminders

Project Stack. First thing on Monday morning, I'll update the stack with the assignments turned in over the weekend, and you'll be able to check the stack to make sure I received your assignment.

Course Evaluation. You should have received an email explaining that the course evaluation window is now open at eval.ou.edu, and I hope you will take a minute to evaluate this course along with your other courses — you might even win an iPad! Your feedback is incredibly important, especially for the online course program. Online courses are still considered something new at the university, and that means your input will actually determine the future of online courses at OU. So, when you have a few minutes to spare, please log on to eval.ou.edu and share your thoughts!

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Wonderful Writing. I adapted this from a graphic about "life" because it applies to writing also:

Words to Watch: Today's words to watch out for are CUE and QUEUE. For details, see this blog post.

Featured Storybook: My Brothers Grimm: The Diary of the Only Grimm Sister. You've never heard of Charlotte Grimm, but without her help, the Brothers Grimm would never have survived to write their famous collection of fairy tales.

Free Book Online: The Russian Garland by Robert Steele. This blog post provides additional information about the stories in this book. If you liked the Russian folktales in the UnTextbook, you might enjoy the Russian fairy tales in this book.

India Featured Book: Ganesha: The Remover of All Obstacles. This blog post provides additional information about this reading option for Indian Epics. It's all about Ganesha, the elephant-headed son of Parvati and Shiva.

Words of Wisdom: Today's proverb poster is Every road has two directions (a Ukrainian proverb). Details at the Proverb Lab. This is one of those proverbs that is literally true, along with all kinds of great metaphorical applications.

Today's Video: Gutenberg ("Sunday Girl" by Blondie). Here is another history mash-up from Amy Burvall, this time about the German printer Gutenberg and his movable type.

Growth Mindset: Today's growth mindset cat is not afraid of end-of-semester stress: Let the stress energize you. Details at the blog.

Event on Campus: There will be an OU Symphony and Concert Band performance at 8PM in Sharp Concert Hall (details). Find out more about this and other events at the Campus Calendar online.

April 25: Al Pacino. Today is Al Pacino's birthday: he is 75! You can read more about his amazing career at Wikipedia. I've shared this video before, but I thought a fun tribute to Al Pacino would be this mash-up video which contains multiple Al Pacinos, multiple Tom Cruises, and all kinds of multiplying mayhem: Hell's Club.

Note: You can page back through the older blog posts to see any announcements you might have missed, and you can check out the Twitter stream for information and fun stuff during the day.
