Tuesday, November 1

Today is Tuesday of WEEK 11, and I've re-arranged the Modules area in Canvas so the new week is on top. If you have not done any reading for this week yet, now is the time to read! Here is a link to this week's assignments.

Class Procedures and Reminders

Work ahead, finish early. For those of you with lots of end-of-semester projects and finals, I would urge you to work ahead in this class and finish early! All the weeks are available in Canvas; just pop open the module for each week to see the assignments there.

Project Stack. I still have some Saturday assignments in the stack; I will get through those today, and then I'll start on the Sunday assignments. You can check the stack to make sure I received your email.

Michaela's Survey. Here is another Capstone survey; this one comes from Michaela in Indian Epics, and it is for past study abroad participants (Michaela is studying the relationship between language study and study abroad satisfaction): Study Abroad Survey. I know a lot of you have done study abroad, so I hope you will take a few minutes to complete Michaela's survey!

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Spelling. Because you can never have too much English spelling humor: Pony - Bologna.

Change the World. Make sure you look around the corner to find the whole message: change the world.

GrammarCatz. This one just needs a little help with spelling and with punctuation: IM SLEEPIN.

Featured Storybook. This project is from the Indian Epics class: Dai Dreaming: A Collection of Birth Stories. This is the story of a midwife, or dai, who has watched the birth goddess herself, Shashthi, in vivid and dramatic dream visions, both beautiful and terrifying.

Free Book Online: The High Deeds of Finn and other Bardic Romances of Ancient Ireland by T. W. Rolleston. See the Freebookapalooza blog for links and the table of contents. The illustrations are by Stephen Reid:

Words of Wisdom: Today's saying is Man is more fragile than a flower, and yet harder than a stone (a proverb from Kashmir). Find out more at the Proverb Lab. You can be both the flower and the stone. :-)

Today's Video: Jammin'. I am thrilled to share this new video from Maati Baani (my favorite musical duo from India): this is a mesmerizing story told through song and image! More at their channel here: Maati Baani.

Growth Mindset: Today's growth mindset cat is leaping towards the end of the semester: Take risks and overcome obstacles. You can find out more at the Growth Mindset blog.

Event on Campus: Today is the first day of the two-day Unity Symposium (details). Find out more about this and other events at the Campus Calendar online.

November 1: All Saints Day. Halloween is the "Eve of All Hallows" i.e. the Eve of All Saints, which is celebrated today, November 1, and the Day of All Souls will be celebrated tomorrow, November 2. In Mexico, the holidays are called Día de Muertos; find out more in 230 Kaufman:
