Saturday, December 3

Today is Saturday of Week 14. The semester is almost over! Hopefully you can finish up this week, and that way you will have a Dead Week in this class all next week. Both the Week 14 and Week 15 assisgnments are available at the Class Calendar.

Class Procedures and Reminders

Project Stack. I'll try to update the stack periodically this weekend, and you can then check the stack to make sure I received your assignment. The sooner you can get your project turned in, the sooner you'll get comments back from me starting on Monday.

Finishing the class. (repeat announcement) A lot of people are finishing up the class now, which is wonderful to see, and there is only one more week to go: the class will be over this Friday, December 9, at noon. As soon as you have the points you need for the grade you want (410 for an A, 360 for a B, 320 for a C), you are all done. If you have questions about any of that, please ask!

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Attention. A tip for those of you who are cramming this week: When everything is highlighted, nothing is highlighted.

Motivation. Some thoughts about time: Forget yesterday. It has already forgotten you. Don't sweat tomorrow. You haven't even met. Instead, open your eyes and heart to a truly precious gift: today.

GrammarCat. Humans like caffeine, and cats like... catnip.

Featured Storybook. This project is from the Indian Epics class: Project Runway: Indian Epics Edition. This Storybook features both beautiful clothes and beautiful stories about Ulupi the Asura Princess, Noor Jahan the Mughal Queen, and Ganges the River Goddess. Which fashion designer do you think won this season's contest?

Free Book Online: Folklore of Shakespeare by T.F. Thiselton Dyer. See the Freebookapalooza blog for links and the table of contents. This is a fun book both for fans of Shakespeare and for fans of folklore:

Words of Wisdom: Today's saying is Heroism consists in hanging on one minute longer (a Norwegian proverb). Find out more at the Proverb Lab. I thought this would be a good message for the end of the semester.

Today's Video: Fifteenth-Century Armor. I thought you might enjoy this demonstration video about armored combat:

Growth Mindset: Today's growth mindset cat has goals for growth. YOUR GOAL: you won't always reach it, but it's something to aim at. You can find out more at the Growth Mindset blog.

Oklahoma City Event: There is an exhibit at the Oklahoma City Museum of Art on "Sacred Words: The Saint John's Bible and the Art of Illumination" (details).

December 3: International Day of Persons with Disabilities. The United Nations has declared December 3 to mark the observance of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, and the theme for 2016 is: Achieving Goals for the Future We Want You can learn more about the disability rights movement in this Wikipedia article, which also lists additional resources.
