Wednesday, December 7

Today is Wednesday of WEEK 15. I hope you will try to finish up the class today: all the remaining Week 15 assignments are ready to go! Here is a link to the assignments.

Class Procedures and Reminders

This week's schedule. (repeat announcement) Week 15 is a review week, with no new reading, and all the assignments are available now. As soon as you get the points you need, you are all done with the class. The class will be over this Friday at noon, so make sure you complete all the assignments you need by then!

Final grades in Canvas. Unlike D2L, Canvas will not accept a points-based grading system, so I'm not able to display an actual letter grade for you in Canvas. I think that is very weird, but none of the Canvas administrators could figure out how to make it work. Luckily, though, the system is simple: 410 points and above is an A, 360-409 is a B, 320-359 is a C, and 301-319 points is a D. I am very surprised that Canvas will not let me display the letter grade, but don't worry: I will record in Ozone the letter grade that matches your points.

Project Stack. I made good progress on the stack yesterday; if you turned something in before 5PM on Sunday, you should have comments back from me now! You can check the stack to make sure I received your assignment.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Creativity. When you are coloring (literally or metaphorically), I highly recommend using the whole box of crayons.

Time. Whether you are graduating this year or not, today is the first day of a new year, and a year from now, you will be glad you started today.

GrammarCatz. This Grammar Cat is pulling some all-nighters: Whatever you do, don't fall asleep.

Featured Storybook. This project is from the Indian Epics class: Adventures through the East. Travel to Thailand, Nepal and India, with Hanuman himself as your travel guide, along with some help from Jambavan and Sugriva.

Free Book Online: An H. P. Lovecraft Anthology. See the Freebookapalooza blog for links and the table of contents. Some of you may be familiar already with Lovecraft's most famous creation: Cthulhu.

Words of Wisdom: Today's saying is Every man is a microcosm and carries the whole world about him (a saying of Sir Thomas Browne). Find out more at the Proverb Lab. The image is Leonardo da Vinci's Vitruvian Man.

Today's Video: Battlestar Galactica. Listen closely: the Battlestar Galactica theme contains words from ancient India, the Gayatri Mantra. No kidding!

Growth Mindset: Today's growth mindset cat is working hard because effort is what makes you smart. You can find out more at the Growth Mindset blog.

Event on Campus: Starting at 6PM tonight, come to the BIzzell Community space and decorate holiday cookies (details). Find out more about this and other events at the Campus Calendar online.

December 7: Bernini. Today marks the birthday of the sculptor Gianlorenzo Bernini in 1598. You can find out more at Wikipedia; he is especially famous for his mythological work, like this sculpture of Medusa:
