Spring 2017: Ready to start early

Welcome to the SPRING SEMESTER, everybody! Classes begin officially on Tuesday, January 17 — and if you want a head start on the semester, the classes are up and running now. It will probably make your other classes easier to manage next week if you can finish up the first week of work in this class over the weekend. :-)

Getting Started. To begin, click this ORIENTATION link where you will find the list of assignments introducing you to the tools and websites you will be using for this online class.

My Weekend Schedule. If you run into any problems or have questions, definitely let me know: laura-gibbs@ou.edu. I don't check email as often on the weekends, but I'll keep an eye on my email this weekend, and I'll try to answer your questions promptly.

Canvas. I'm guessing you have heard about OU switching from D2L to Canvas, and you may have even used Canvas in a class last semester. I had a good experience with Canvas last semester, and I hope you will like it! When you log on to Canvas.ou.edu, you will see this same Announcements page as the Canvas homepage for the class you are in: Myth-Folklore or Indian Epics.

Daily Announcements. Starting on the official first day of classes, I'll be updating these announcements every day. If you want to subscribe by email, use the "subscribe" box in the sidebar of this blog. Type in the email address you prefer and follow the instructions to confirm your subscription. Then, when the daily announcements start on January 17, you'll receive them by email each morning.

Twitter. Although there won't be new daily announcements until the semester officially starts, there will be new Twitter items to watch @OnlineMythIndia. Twitter is a great place to connect with writers, storytellers, and musicians, along with museums and libraries; I find new things to share at Twitter every day!

And just for fun, here are two videos, each taking their own perspective — slow or fast— on the mystery that is the passage of time, moment by moment and season by season. HAPPY NEW YEAR, everybody!
