HAPPY FRIDAY! You have reached the end of Week 4! Here is a link to the class calendar so that you can finish up the Week 4 assignments, and maybe you will want to start on the Week 5 assignments today too.

Class Procedures and Reminders

Week 4 Blog Comments. The blog commenting assignment is now available, with new random groups! There is also an extra credit responding option (it's available every week) if you want to read more posts by the people in your group.

Project Stack. I should be able to finish all the assignments that were turned in on or before Thursday; if you turn in something today, I will try to get to it, and if not, then you will be at the top of the stack for Monday! Meanwhile, you can check the stack to make sure I received your assignment.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Language. The sentence "A quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog" is a pangram: it contains all the letters of the English alphabet. Find out more about pangrams at the blog post. Here's another one: The five boxing wizards jump quickly.

Writing. Wise words about writing and about life from Susan Sontag: Love words, agonize over sentences. And pay attention to the world.

Word from India. The "Lion-City" name comes from Sanskrit: SINGAPORE.

Featured Storybook. This project is from the Indian Epics class: Project Runway: Indian Epics Edition. This Storybook features both beautiful clothes and beautiful stories about Ulupi the Asura Princess, Noor Jahan the Mughal Queen, and Ganges the River Goddess. Which fashion designer do you think won this season's contest?

Free Book Online: Today's free book is The Arabian Nights: Their Best-Known Tales by Kate Wiggin and Nora Smith. See the Freebookapalooza blog for links and the table of contents. The illustrations are by Maxfield Parrish!

Words of Wisdom: Today's saying is Add drop to drop, and there will be an ocean (a Polish proverb). Find out more at the Proverb Lab. And add day to day, and you will have a semester!

Video: The video for today is Art In The Library. This is such a fun OU Libraries video!

Growth Mindset: Today's growth mindset cat knows you don't have to cope with life all on your own: Connect with others to reduce stress. You can find out more at the Growth Mindset blog.

Event on Campus: UPB Week still has some fun events in store, like Dancing with the Stars tonight, and the film Moana tomorrow night (details). Find out more about this and other events at the Campus Calendar online.

February 10: James Mooney. Today marks the birthday of the anthropologist and folklorist James Mooney who was born on this day in 1861. You can read about his remarkable life and career at Wikipedia, and his monumental collection of Cherokee legends is available for you to read free online: Myths of the Cherokee.
