Monday, April 24

Today is Monday. Week 13 is now over... and Week 14 has begun. That means it is the last week of reading and storytelling posts for the semester! You can find the week's assignments at the Class Calendar.

Class Procedures and Reminders

Project Stack. As usual on Monday, there will be a big stack of assignments, and you can check the stack to make sure I received your assignment.

Course Evaluation. I hope you will take a few minutes to do the course evaluation — and you might even win an iPad! Your feedback is very important for me, and your feedback is also important for the online course program. Online courses are still considered something new at the university, and that means your input will actually determine the future of online courses at OU. So, when you have a few minutes to spare, please log on to eval.ou.edu and share your thoughts: thank you in advance for your feedback!

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Imagination. Here are some wise words from Carl Sagan and a drawing from Budda Doodles:

Punctuation. Punctuation really does matter, as you can see in this Dear John letter:

Words from India. The word JUNGLE comes from the Sanskrit word jangala.

Featured Storybook. This project is from the Indian Epics class: The Story of Hanuman. Aarti very much wants for her children Raj and Risha to learn about the monkey-god Hanuman, starting with his birth and the famous story of Hanuman and the mango, and then the adventures that begin when Hanuman meets Rama, to whom he swears his undying devotion.

Free Book Online: Today's free book is Moon Lore by Timothy Harley. See the Freebookapalooza blog for links and the table of contents. You've heard of "the man in the moon," and in this book you can find out about "the hare in the moon" and other moon myths and legends.

Words of Wisdom: Today's saying is Heroism consists in hanging on one minute longer (a Norwegian proverb). Find out more at the Proverb Lab. I thought this would be a good one to share as we get near the end of the semester.

Video: The video for today is The Biology of Positivity. Find out more at the blog post.

Growth Mindset: Today's growth mindset cat is learning to be brave: Just do it! Confidence will follow.. You can find out more at the Growth Mindset blog.

Event on Campus: Go to the South Oval this morning to get your official "Bike Sooner" bike bell (details). Find out more about this and other events at the Campus Calendar online.

April 24. This is the birthday of the Library of Congress! It was created in the year 1800 when President John Adams signed a law appropriating to appropriate $5,000 to purchase "such books as may be necessary for the use of Congress." Find out more at Wikipedia. This shows the Reading Room:
