Saturday, April 1

Today is Saturday of Week 10. It's the end of Week 10, and the beginning of April... and I hope you are enjoying the weekend!

Class Procedures and Reminders

Finishing up the class. (repeat announcement) After Week 10, there are just five more weeks of school: Weeks 11-12-13-14-15. Week 11 starts on Monday, and it's a good idea to make a plan now for finishing up the class, choosing what assignments you want to work on and deciding on how many stories you want to include in your Portfolio or Storybook, etc. You can use this Weekly Chart to track your progress, especially if you would like to have a total Dead Week in this class before finals. If you have questions about any of that, let me know!

Project Stack. On Friday, I managed to read and reply to all the projects turned in before noon on Thursday. If you want comments back sooner rather than later, turn in your project today; don't wait for Sunday! I'll update the stack periodically so that you can check the stack to make sure I received your email.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Life. This is good life advice: PUSH = Persist Until Something Happens.

Writing. What is your punctuation personality? I am mostly a semi-colon, with a dash of dash!

Spelling. This is another one of those sneaky word pairs: DOSE v. DOZE.

Featured Storybook. This project is from the Indian Epics class: Dreams of the Ancients: Dreams Are Reality. You are dreaming, and then you awake as Rama... who then dreams, and wakes as Vishnu... who then dreams... and wakes...

Free Book Online: Today's free book is The Scottish Fairy Book by Elizabeth W. Grierson. See the Freebookapalooza blog for links and the table of contents. The illustrations are by Morris Meredith Williams.

Words of Wisdom: Today's saying is If I laugh not, how can I live? (a proverb from India). Find out more at the Proverb Lab. This is a proverb of the Kashmiri people.

Video: The video for today is Manish Vyas's Tumi Bhaja Re Mana Mantra. You can find more music at this Manish Vyas playlist.

Growth Mindset: Today's growth mindset cat is exploring his capabilities: You are capable of more than you think. You can find out more at the Growth Mindset blog.

Event near Campus: The Medieval Fair is this weekend at Reaves Park! You can see the (schedule of Fair events here).

April 1: April Fools' Day. You can read all about this prank-loving holiday at Wikipedia. One of my favorites is the "flying penguins" hoax from the BBC back in 2008; you can watch the video at YouTube: don't believe everything you see! :-)
