Monday, September 11

Today is Monday. Week 3 is now over... and Week 4 has begun. The new week's topic in the Myth-Folklore class is Classical and Biblical stories again, and in Indian Epics you will be finishing your first encounter with the Ramayana. You can find the week's assignments at the Class Calendar.

Class Procedures and Reminders

Project Stack. As usual on Monday, the stack is huge! I will start with the assignments turned in on Friday, and then I'll move on to the assignments turned in on Saturday. While you are waiting on comments back from me about your Project assignment, you can check the stack to make sure I received your email.

Semester Progress. The class is now 20% over (incredible but true!), so you might want to use this Chart to check how you are doing. The chart lets you see the totals week by week so you can gauge whether you are on track for the grade you want to receive. If you are not on track, just make sure you do more of the assigned work, along with some extra credit to make up any assignments you might have missed.

Extra Credit. If you are looking for something motivational to start your week, you might want to try a Growth Mindset option; you don't need to wait until the end of the week to do extra credit; you can do that any time! Find out more in the extra credit section of this week's assignments.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Class Twitter. From yesterday's Twitter @OnlineMythIndia, here is a report on a 10th-century Viking skeleton: Viking warrior discovered in Sweden was a woman.

Reading. As you get ready to read this week, here's a poster by Maurice Sendak.

Storybook Archive. This project is from the Myth-Folklore class: Automaton: Robots of Legend. This story contains legends of mythological robots, beginning with the legendary Talos, guardian of the ancient Greek island of Crete, and the mechanical eagle that fed each day on the liver of the Titan Prometheus.

Story of the Day. Today's story is from the Buddhist jatakas: The Faithful Friend. It is the story of  an elephant and a dog who were friends:
