OU-Texas Weekend: October 13-14

HAPPY HOLIDAY! You have reached the end of Week 8... and it's OU-Texas weekend! If you are finishing up Week 8, here's a link to the class calendar. And if you are traveling, be safe! There will be new announcements here on Sunday.

Class Procedures and Reminders

Project Stack. On Thursday, I finished replying to all the Week 7 assignments turned in on time. On Friday, I will finish the Week 7 assignments from the grace period, along with as many of the Week 8 assignments as I can get to. While you are waiting on comments back from me about your Project assignment, you can check the stack to make sure I received your email.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Class Twitter. From yesterday's Twitter @OnlineMythIndia, here is Amar Chitra Katha's brand-new edition of Valmiki's Ramayana. I had pre-ordered my copy weeks ago, and it arrived from India yesterday!

Words from Mythology. Today's word is HERCULEAN, from the name of the Greek hero Heracles, known as Hercules by the Romans.

Storybook Archive. This project is from the Myth-Folklore class: Demigod Daycare. It is a special occasion at Demigod Daycare: the Muses themselves have come to tell stories to little Heracles and Perseus and all the little sons and daughters of the gods and goddesses.

Free Book Online: Today's free book is The Mahabharata translated by Kisari Mohan Ganguli. See the Freebookapalooza blog for links and the table of contents. This is a massive, unabridged, literal English translation of the whole Mahabharata.

Story of the Day. Today's story is from Aesop's fables: The Jackdaw and the Eagle, in which a jackdaw tries, and fails, to act like an eagle.

Video: The video for today is a brand-new video from Maati Baani in defense of the Aarey forest: Chipko Re. Find out more at the Bombay Times and you can read about the original Chipko movement at Wikipedia.

Growth Mindset: Today's growth mindset cat knows that sometimes you win; sometimes you learn.. You can find out more at the Growth Mindset blog.

And here's hoping good things for the Red River Showdown:
