Sunday, March 25

Today is Sunday of Week 9 ... and welcome back from Spring Break. If you did not finish Week 9 before the break, then today is the day to finish up. You can find all the assignments for this week and next week at the Class Calendar. Safe travels to those of you who are on the road home today!

Class Procedures and Reminders

Success Tip: Plan Ahead. As we get into the final stretch of the semester, it's a perfect time to plan how you want to finish up, especially if your goal is to finish early. After Week 9, there are five more weeks of class, plus Dead Week. You can get more help here: Progress Chart.

Week 9 Blog Comments. For those of you doing the Week 9 blog comments today, you'll see that it is a bit different: because there were no new stories in Week 8, you are choosing which story to comment on from the "Story" label area at each person's blog. You can choose their most recent story or a story from back at the beginning of the semester, whatever catches your attention!

Project Stack. I'll be updating the stack today as people send in those Week 9 Project assignments, and I'll start reading and replying to the assignments in order on Monday. While you are waiting on comments back from me, you can check the stack to make sure I received your email.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Blog Stream. I am a big fan of bookmarks, so I was glad to see Adrian's blog post about bookmarks which also explains the power of Control-D. Especially if you are doing some big research project in another class, now would be a good time to make yourself into a bookmarking expert: Bookmarks Tech Tips.

Myth Item. When I was in Austin last week, I had the good luck to see a performance by this great UT Austin student group: Texas Dragon/Lion Dance Team.

India Video: Krishna stories will be one of the reading options in the coming week, so I wanted to share this video preview for one of the graphic novels on Reserve in Bizzell: Krishna: Defender of Dharma.

Myth Book Online: In Myth-Folklore, you will be moving on to Native American topics next week, and today's free book is When the Storm God Rides: Tejas and Other Indian Legends by Florence Stratton. See the Freebookapalooza blog for links and the table of contents. This is one of the reading units you can choose for Week 10:

Proverb of the Day: Today's proverb is from China: Your fingers can’t be of the same length. Find out more at the Proverb Laboratory. Every finger has its purposes!

Writing: IMO we can never have too much punctuation humor: You're Adorable.

H.E.A.R.T.: Here's a thought for finding your focus.

Growth Mindset: Today's growth mindset cat is aiming high: Stretch yourself and reach your goal. You can find out more at the Growth Mindset blog.

Video: Here's a video about the English language that I thought you might enjoy: How far back in time could you go and still understand English?

Event on Campus: Bizzell Library will re-open today at noon, and it will remain open until 2AM (details). Find out more about this and other events at the Campus Calendar online.

March 25: Rama Navami. Today is the holiday of Rama Navami, "Rama's Birthday," which you can read about at Wikipedia. Those of you in Indian Epics will not be surprised to find out that many of the biggest Rama Navami festivals take place in Ayodhya. This video shows someone making a kolam (rangoli) for the festival.
