Thursday, April 26

Today is Thursday of Week 14. If you have not done your story yet for this week, that means today is Storytelling Day... and for many of you it will be your last story for the semester, so go wild and have fun! Here is a link to all of this week's assignments.

Project Stack. If you turned in something by 8PM on Sunday, you should have comments back from me now. While you are waiting on comments, you can check the stack to make sure I received your email.

Blog Stream. Brittany has already written her story for this week: Tasty Human BBQ Gone Wrong. Who can resist an opening line like this: From the perspective of the hillside, all of the people seemed so tiny and…well… edible.

ICYMI: In Case You Missed It. Here are some of my favorite items from announcements earlier in the semester. The items below come from Week 3 and Week 4.

Word from India. This is one of my favorite words from India in English: JUGGERNAUT. The English usage refers to the so-called "Chariot of Juggernaut," a cart which carries the image of the divine Jagannatha:

Proverb of the Day: Today's proverb is a neo-Latin proverb familiar to fans of Hogwarts: Never tickle a sleeping dragon. Find out more at the Proverb Laboratory. The Latin is: Draco dormiens numquam titillandus.

Myth Video: This is a fun video for learning about mythology, and it is also an example of a powerful storytelling: Rap Battles: Zeus v. Thor. Find out more at Epic Rap Battles of History. Warning: NSFW!

Reading: Here's a fabulous metaphor for reading: it's new software for your brain.

Writing: I like how even the cat and the dog have stories to write here in the Family of Writers.

India Video: As you explore the world of Amar Chitra Katha comic books in Indian Epics, I thought you might enjoy learning about the remarkable man who created them: Anant Pai.

Creatvity: This is a power we all have: the power to create! When life gets complicated, choose to create.

H.E.A.R.T.: Depending on how your week has gone, you may be feeling like this clock: Whatever... I'm late anyway.

Video: Here's a beautiful video with words by Alan Watts and music by Hans Zimmer: Life from Above. Find out more at YouTube: Alan Watts.

Event on Campus: It's the "Crimson and Queens" Drag Show tonight at 7PM in the Union Ballroom (details). Find out more about this and other events at the Campus Calendar online.

April 26: Jet Li. Today is the birthday of Jet Li, a Chinese martial arts master and film star, who was born in 1963. Happy Birthday, Jet Li! You can read more about Jet Li's life and career in this Wikipedia article. Jet Li has made some wonderful movies with mythological and legendary themes. For children and adults alike, there is The Forbidden Kingdom, in which he plays the Monkey King (and the Silent Monk), with Jackie Chan as his costar.
