HAPPY FRIDAY! Today is Friday of Week 3. Here is a link to the Week 3 assignments, and if you're ready to get a head start, the Week 4 assignments are available now too!

Class Procedures and Reminders

Introduction comments. I think I've left my comments on everyone's Introductions, but if I missed yours, please let me know! Meanwhile, as you'll see when you get to the Week 3 Commenting assignment, you'll be reading other people's Introductions all semester long, and that means you'll be getting more comments on your Introduction too. :-)

More stories. For the regular Week 3 blog comments, you will be reading people's stories from Week 2. Plus, if you are curious and want to read more stories, I just added a new "browse the stories" option to the extra credit commenting option that's available each week. Reading other people's stories can be a great way to ignite your own creativity!

Project Stack. I should be able to finish up all the projects that were in the stack as of Thursday; if you turn something in on Friday, I'll do my best to get to it today, but if I don't make it today, you'll be at the top of the stack on Monday. You can check the stack to make sure I received your email.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Blog Stream. Remember those time management posts from back in Week 1? I bookmarked the ones with fun graphics, like this graphic that Caitlyn in Myth-Folklore made: Thinking about Homework.

Featured Storybook. The Ramayana is an ancient epic, but this Storybook shows that it can be a modern story too: Paranormal: The Ayodhya Files. Right here, right now, the brothers Rama and Lakshmana are battling demons in Boston and New York, unaware that they are caught up in an ancient battle being fought all over again.

India Video. And if you are curious to hear the Ramayana recited, here is a reading by one of my professors at Berkeley, Robert Goldman: Mourning for the Death of Ravana.

Myth Video. And here's a wonderfully creative adaptation of classical mythology: the modern musical Hadestown.

Myth Item. If you look carefully, you might see the ancient hero Hercules in this popular modern meme: Hercules and the Distracted Boyfriend.

Writing. And here's some ancient writing humor: Ancient Grammar Police.

And I hope you have found Something Good Every Day this week.

Growth Mindset Cats. I also hope you have learned new things this week.

And here's a fun growth mindset video... with Muppets! Plus Janelle Monae! The Power of Yet.

Event NEAR Campus. The Medieval Fair Free Lecture Series presents “Sin and Death in Dante: From Limbo to the Lowest Circles of Hell" by Roberto Pesce at 6:15PM at the Norman Public Library West. (details and map).

Find out more about this and other events at the Campus Calendar online.

September 7: Jacob Lawrence. Today marks the birthday of the artist Jacob Lawrence in the year 1917. You can read about his life and remarkable career at Wikipedia; Lawrence even did an illustrated edition of Aesop's fables. Here is a self-portrait from 1977:

And here is a painting called The School Room.
