Sunday, September 16

Today is Sunday of Week 4, so that means it is the day to finish up the Week 4 assignments and, if you have time, the Week 5 assignments are ready to go too!

Class Procedures and Reminders

Padlet of Pets. I created a new Tech Tip that some of you might want to try! You can learn about a fun online tool called "Padlet" by adding your pet. And of course there are lots of other Tech Tips to choose from; I added a new one about Google Slides too.

Project Stack. I'll try to check my email periodically today, so you can check the stack to make sure I received your email. The sooner you turn in that assignment, the sooner you'll get comments back from me. (It takes me all week to get to the assignments turned in later on Sunday evening.)

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Blog Stream. One of my favorite mindset challenges is when people make mottos or acronyms, like this one from Erin: MOVE: Make Opportunities; Value Each. She used Canva to make the graphic:

Featured Storybook. This project from last semester is a great example of interactive storytelling: Dungeons and Decisions. Everybody is getting together for a game of Dungeons and Dragons, including you. Roll the dice and see what fate awaits you in the land of Inuit myth and legend.

It's built with (free) Twine storytelling software.

Myth Video. Before we leave the Bible weeks behind in the Myth-Folklore class, I thought you might enjoy this talk by OU professor Nina Livesey: Current Conversations: Historical Jesus.

India Video. Here's another TED talk by my favorite mythologist, Devdutt Pattanaik: Not Quite Avatar.

India Item. For a new take on the Ramayana next week, some of you in Indian Epics might want to check out this fantastic comic book in Bizzell: Kubera: The Lord of Wealth. It comes with a reading guide, too.

Writing. Here's a fun tool for monitoring your word count, with more kittens the more you write: Written? Kitten! (you can choose from other cute animals too).

And here's a fun one: Field Guide to Procrastinators. I'm guessing everybody can relate to at least one of these types!

Growth Mindset Cats. Curiosity is a force that cannot be denied: Curiosity breeds curiosity.

Yes, it's an ad for Android... but it's also an adorable video: Friends Furever. Be together. Not the same.

Event on Campus. Bizzell is a great place to get some work done on Sundays; Bizzell is open until 2AM, and the Bookmark Cafe stays open until 1AM! (details)

September 16: St. Hildegard. Today marks the birthday in the year 1098 of Hildegard of Bingen, and September 17 is her feast day (she died on September 17 in 1197). Saint Hildegard, who was canonized only recently (in 2012), wrote numerous books in Latin on theological and scientific topics, as well as devotional songs and plays. You can read more about her life and accomplishments in this Wikipedia article. Below is an illustration that she created of one of her mystical visions:
