Class Procedures and Reminders
Subscribe to the announcements. There's useful information (I hope!) in the announcements each day, and you can subscribe to the announcements by email. It's even a Tech Tip: Subscribe to Announcements.
Project Stack. If you turned in your project assignment before 10PM on Sunday, you should have comments back from me by now, and I'll finish up the Sunday assignments today. Meanwhile, you can check the stack to make sure I received your email.
The following items are for fun and exploration:
Blog Stream. I wanted to share Nick's Reading Notes post since it is such a great example of reading while also thinking about what kind of story you want to write: he zoomed in on his favorite story, and he summarized that story while also thinking about he would tell it in his own way: Persian Tales. That's the idea: read all the stories, find your favorite(s), and read it like a writer, thinking about how to use the story for your own creative writing.
Myth Video. This is a Crash Course video for all you psychology majors: Freud, Jung, Luke Skywalker, and the Psychology of Myth:.
Myth Item. Luke Skywalker's story definitely fits the model of The Hero's Journey.
Writing. And here's Tom Gauld's take on Archetypal Heroines. Of course I want to be the Time-Traveling Victorian. And a Cave Woman!
And yes, there is room for weird heroines and heroes: Make your weird light shine bright.
Growth Mindset Cats. Growth mindset means you learn from mistakes: I allow myself to do things imperfectly.
And here's a helpful growth mindset video from Eduardo Briceño: The Power of Belief — Mindset and Success.
Event on Campus. Today is Confucius Institute Day from 10AM - 2PM on the South Oval: experience Chinese culture and enjoy Chinese food (details).
September 27: Rosetta Stone. On this day in the year 1822, Jean-François Champollion announced that he had deciphered the Rosetta stone, a crucial step in the interpretation of the ancient Egyptian writing system which was based on hieroglyphs. You can find out more in this Wikipedia article, and below you can see a picture of the actual Rosetta Stone in the British Museum, along with a video about the stone.
