Class Procedures and Reminders
Read like a writer. Remember that you are writing those reading notes to help you when you tell a story inspired by this week's reading. So, do all the reading, but don't try to take notes on everything. Instead, keep the focus on the specific story/episode(s) that you would like to tell in your own way. More tips here. As you get more practice writing stories, you'll be able to see just what kinds of notes you find most helpful. :-)
Project Stack. If you turned in a project on Friday or Saturday, you should have comments back from me now. Today, I'll be working on the assignments turned in on Sunday. While you are waiting on comments back from me about your Project assignment, you can check the stack to make sure I received your email. As you can see, the sooner you can turn that in each week, the sooner you will get comments back from me.
Semester progress. You may have notice the progress meter in the sidebar of the blog: we're already in Week 3, and the green is slowly but surely going to be filling up that bar, one day at a time!
The following items are for fun and exploration:
Blog Stream. It's always fun to see people come up with stories that are unlike anything anyone has ever done for this class before, and look at what Jacob did with the Odyssey, telling the Cyclops story in "Old Macdonald" style: E-I-E-I-O.
Myth Video. This video features a Godzilla-hamster combination: Tiny Hamster is a Giant Monster!
Myth Item. Since many of you are reading Greek myth this week, here's a myth cartoon: Midas and Medusa.
Writing. Here's a cartoon to inspire you in your creative process this week.
And don't be afraid to be weird! Blessed are the Weird.
Growth Mindset Cats. Meanwhile, today's cat urges you to write without fear.
And remember that the Writing Center is available to you all semester long: Writing Center Hours and Locations.
Event on Campus. There will be a Mexican fiesta on the South Oval from 11AM to 2PM with dulces, piƱatas, and music! (details)
September 5: Teacher's Day. Today is celebrated as Teacher's Day in India in honor of Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan who was a philosopher and writer, and who was also the president of India from 1962-1967; he was born on this day in 1888. You can read more Radhakrishnan at Wikipedia. This graphic shows Radhakrishnan and the words of the Guru Mantra.
And here's a beautiful performance of the Guru Mantra with Shankar Tucker on clarinet:
