Thursday, March 28

Today is Thursday of Week 10. Here is a link to the Week 10 assignments (and Week 11 too). Some of you will be telling stories today, and some of you may be doing a "Story Lab" assignment: I hope you will have fun with whatever option you are choosing!

Class Procedures and Reminders

My schedule today. I'll be away from my desk for most of the afternoon, so I may be slower to respond to any emails you send this afternoon, but I should be able to get caught up by the end of the day.

Project Stack. If you turned in your project assignment before 8PM on Sunday, you should have comments back from me now. I'll keep working on the Sunday assignments today. As always, you can check the stack to make sure I received your email.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Blog Stream. For those of you who are doing the "lab" this week, I wanted to share this fun graphic from Simran's blog: Lab Coat Styles (I've been saving this one from the last Story Lab back in Week 6, ha ha).

Comic Book On Reserve. Today's comic book is about a famous figure in the Indian literary tradition: Rabindranath Tagore: India's Gentle Torch-Bearer. For more about Tagore, see the video below.

Free Audiobook. Today's free audiobook is The Unknown Life of Jesus Christ by Nicolas Notovitch. Notovitch claimed to have found evidence that Jesus spent time in India, learning from Hindu and Buddhist holy men. You can read more about him at Wikipedia.

Featured Storybook. Here's something scary from the Storybook archive: Man-Eaters: Lillith's Lair of Lascivious Ladies. There are clubs . . . and then there is Lilith's club. You really should have thought twice before you entered, and you might start looking for an exit now, before it is too late!

Myth Video. This is a Smithsonian video on Native American Ledger Art.

India Video. And here's a video about the great Bengali author Rabindranath Tagore.

India Item. This is a fascinating infographic about religion that shows the distinctive presence of Hinduism in India: World Map of Religions.

Writing. It's all about getting creative: Connect the Dots.

Plus some thoughts on Knowledge versus Wisdom.

Growth Mindset Cats. This cat wants to know more.

And here are some thoughts on the power to create.

Event on Campus. Come hear Tariq Toure at 7PM in Gaylord Auditorium: Growing up Muslim: Breaking Barriers through Art and Advocacy, an event sponsored by the Muslim Students Association (details).

Find out more about this and other events at the Campus Calendar online.

March 28: Marc Chagall. Today marks the anniversary of the death of the painter Marc Chagall in 1985; he was born in 1887. You can read more about his life and work in this Wikipedia article. Chagall created amazing dreamscapes combining motifs from the Jewish tradition and from other religious and mythological traditions also. The painting below is entitled Les Fiancés de la tour Eiffel.

And here is a video showing more of his work:
