Friday, September 13

HAPPY FRIDAY! Yes, I know: Friday the 13th... but it's still Friday, right? Here is a link to the Week 4 assignments and also a link to Week 5 if you are ready to get a head start on next week now.

Class Procedures and Reminders

Browser Word Count. If you're looking for a Tech Tip that can be useful for this class and perhaps in other classes too, give the browser word counter a try! Here are instructions for a Chrome Word Counter, and you can find something similar for other browsers I'm sure.

Project Stack. I've replied to all the Week 3 assignments in the stack, and today I'll be working on the Week 4 and Week 5 assignments that people have turned in already (yay!). Meanwhile as always, you can check the stack to make sure I received your assignment. I've also started listing the projects for both classes: Myth-Folklore and Indian Epics. I'll be updating the slideshow as more people publish their websites at the end of this week. :-)

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Blog Stream. Some people used the Story Lab option this week to do Twine games! You can do Twine as a Tech Tip at any time. Here is one from Brianna:

Twitter Stream. I thought you might enjoy this lovely Twitter thread dedicated to African architecture:

Myth-Folklore Video. And here's a Crash Course video about Mythical Cities.

Story of the Day. This "why story" is a Cherokee legend about How The Redbird Got His Color. It's mostly the fault of a prankster raccoon!

Indian Epics Today. The character of the day is HANUMAN. I don't know about you, but Hanuman is my favorite of the Ramayana characters. More about Hanuman.

Storybooks. I was a student in the Indian Epics class last semester, and this was my Storybook about Hanuman in the Thai Ramayana: Hanuman in the Ramakien.

Indian Epics. And here's a legend about Hanuman and the creation of the Ebony Tree:

Mindset Cats. The mindset cat knows that growth requires hard work.

Mindset Video. And here's a video to use in thinking about work: What makes us feel good about our work? with Dan Ariely.

Event on Campus. Come hear Katia Cardenal, from Nicaragua, in Sharp Concert Hall today at 4:30PM in a free workshop, and then there will be a concert at 7:30PM (details). Here's a video of her song, Colibri:

September 13: Friday and a Full Moon. It is quite unusual to have a full moon coincide with Friday the 13th, but that's what is happening this year (more information). So, make sure to go out and take a look, just so you can say you were there!
