HAPPY FRIDAY! You have reached the end of Week 6. Here is a link to the Week 6 assignments, and if you are ready to get started on next week now, you'll find that list here: Week 7. The semester is racing along very fast now!

Class Procedures and Reminders

My schedule today. I'll be out of the office for the late morning and early afternoon, so I will be slower to respond to emails during that time, but definitely contact me with any questions that come up and I'll get back to you by the end of the day.

Project Stack. I've read and replied to all the assignments turned in on Sunday, and I'll get through the rest of the Week 5 assignments in the stack today, plus as many of the Week 6 (and later) assignments as I can. As always, you can check the stack to make sure I received your assignment.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Blog Stream. Kaitlyn did a Favicon Tech Tip, changing her default Blogger icon to a really cool rainbow-writer icon. I liked it so much that I snagged that icon to use for the Writing Lab blog where I keep all the writing help posts for this class. So, Kaitlyn's blog now looks like this in the browser tab, with its own icon; you can see the icon in her blog post too.

Twitter Stream. Here's a great Twitter video from AncientLyric: she's playing a Greek lyre!

Myth-Folklore Video. Friday is just the end of the week, not the end of the world, but I thought it would be fun to share this Crash Course video today: The Apocalypse.

Story of the Day. Today's "why" story is an Aesop's fable that tells why the tortoise carries its home on its back: Jupiter and the Tortoise.

Indian Epics Today. The character for today is another of the divine fathers of the Pandavas; this time it is Indra, the storm-god, who is the father of the hero Arjuna. More about Indra, and here's a short Epified video about him:

Storybooks. You can also learn in this Storybook about the rivalry between Indra and the gods Vishnu and Shiva: Indra.

Myth-Folklore. And from the wide world of mythology and folklore, here is a very cool diagram of Mythical Creatures.

Writing. If you need some encouragement in your writing, Sylvia Duckworth has lots of reasons why you should be creative.

Mindset Cats. Today's mindset cat knows it's important to think creatively.

Event on Campus. There will be free showings of Toy Story 4 in Meacham at 6PM, 9PM and midnight (details).

September 27: Rosetta Stone. On this day in the year 1822, Jean-François Champollion announced that he had deciphered the Rosetta stone, a crucial step in the interpretation of the ancient Egyptian writing system which was based on hieroglyphs. You can find out more in this Wikipedia article, and below you can see a picture of the actual Rosetta Stone in the British Museum, along with a video about the stone below.

Check out the Twitter stream for information and fun stuff during the day, or click here for past announcements.
