Saturday, February 15

Today is Saturday of Week 5... and I hope you are having a nice weekend! Here is a link to Week 5, and also a link to Week 6 if you are ready to move on ahead.

Class Procedures and Reminders

Project Stack. If you turned something in on Thursday, you should have comments back from me now, and anything turned in on Friday will be at the top of the stack on Monday. Meanwhile, I'll update the stack periodically over the weekend so you can check to make sure I received your assignment.

And THANK YOU to everybody who has their project website up and running now: it is really exciting to see those take shape this semester. I'll keep updating the project lists and the slideshow next week as more projects keep coming in.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Blog Stream. People have been doing some wonderful biographical writing for that extra credit option, and I noticed this one from Brooke because of the great pictures she included: The Manitou Incline.

Twitter Stream. I follow RhymesWithOrange at Twitter, and here is one of her cartoons... about reincarnation! (larger size)

Indian Epics Today. As we start the Mahabharata in Indian Epics, I'll be reviewing some of the gods who are involved in this epic, starting with the goddess Ganga, who is the mother of the hero Bhishma. More about Ganga.

Storybooks. This is a beautiful Storybook from last year: Love and Loss in Vietnam.

Indian Music Video. Here's a lovely video from India: Yaara | Anthem. Turn on CC to see the English subtitles:

100-Word Stories. Today's story is: Nasruddin at the Bathhouse (click title for more info).

Myth-Folklore. If you're feeling a little stressed at this time of the semester, you might enjoy these Medieval Beasts That Cannot Even Handle It Right Now.

H.E.A.R.T.. And if you're feeling stress, just remember: you are a wise and powerful wizard!

Mindset Cats. And for the weekend, mindset cat advice: get some rest!

Writing Video. And here are some thoughts on the Power to Create.

Event near Campus. It's OU StompDance at Thunderbird Casino tonight! (details)

February 15: Nirvana Day. In some Buddhist countries, February 15 is celebrated as Nirvana Day or Parinirvana Day. This is, by tradition, the anniversary of the day on which the Buddha left this life; as he died, he achieved "nirvana" which is release from the cycle of life, suffering, death and rebirth. You can read more about this holiday at the BBC Religions website. The image below is a depiction from Thailand of the Buddha's parinirvana:
