Saturday, February 29

Today is Saturday of Week 7. Around the middle of the semester like this, school can feel kind of overwhelming... which makes the weekend even more welcome. So.......... enjoy the weekend!

Class Procedures and Reminders

Project Stack. Many people are adding new stories to their projects this weekend, which means next week I will have a LOT of stories to comment on. If you want comments back sooner rather than later, turn in your project today, Saturday, if you can. I'll update the stack periodically over the weekend so you can check the stack to make sure I received your form.

Project Slideshows. I try to keep the project slideshows up-to-date with people's website homepages, but I might have missed some. So, if you notice that the slide for your project does not match your current homepage, just let me know so I can update it.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Blog Stream. The weekend is a great time to do some Tech Tips, and there are some fun graphic creation tips to try. Here's a fortune cookie that Dylan made:

Twitter Stream. I'm always looking for beautiful art at Twitter, and here is some art from the Congo via the Cleveland Museum of Art:

Indian Epics Today. The epic character for today is another of the Pandavas: Bhima. As the son of the wind god Vayu, that makes him Hanuman's half-brother, and Bhima meets Hanuman in the Mahabharata!

Storybooks. And here's a Storybook from last year in Indian Epics: Nataraja: Lord of the Cosmic Dance.

A Bigger Bookshelf. Today's book is Haida Texts and Myths by John R. Swanton, free to read online at Hathi Trust. You can read more about the Haida people at Wikipedia; here is Haida artist Robert Davidson dancing in full regalia, and you can find out more about Davidson's work at his website: Guud San Glans / Eagle of the Dawn.

Proverbs. This proverb comes from ZanzibarWhen two elephants struggle, it is the grass that suffers.

Writing. For those of you who are into fonts, here is a John Atkinson cartoon about Elefonts.

And Grant Snider has some elefonts too:

Mindset Cats. Meanwhile, the mindset cat is developing new skills:

Event on campus. I learned from Anhthu about Alpha Sigma Kappa’s MasqueRAVE which is tonight, 7PM-9PM in the Jim Thorpe Multicultural Center (details).

February 29:  You only get to see that date every four years. As you can imagine, the Wikipedia article about Leap Years is filled with all kinds of fascinating details about this calendar phenomenon, including leap years in folklore. Happy Leap Year!
